OUTER RESIDENTIAL QUARTER I

[Shibusen folks have been loitering around this place since the attack. Extra security and all.]

[Tail end of Shift One/Beginning of Shift Two][CLOSED to Gintoki]

[An uneventful shift this time around, it seems...

Takasugi's already seen Okita off. He's idling around now, for the lack of anything better to do.]

[These last few days have been nothing short of exhausting for Gintoki, who now feels as though he ought to have a week off for all of his work. As it turns out, Katsura is the one with the week off, and Gintoki is patrolling on his behalf. He's glad Roy kept him out of work, but that isn't stopping him from grumbling as he slowly walks down the street.]

[Oh, a Gintoki.

...Hum.]

Hey.

[Slight wave.]

[A wild Takasugi appears!

Gintoki will reciprocate with a small smile.]

Yo. Just done with your shift?

[alastinglight]

Yeah. Okita went home already.

[Shuffles feet.]

Why didn't you go with him? Working is good and all, but there's a reason why a lot of doctors recommend resting. And it isn't because they're lazy doctors who don't want to look at you.

[He knows this is likely pointless; he's as stubborn as Katsura about this. A shame he can't really employ Roy for this one too.]

[Gintoki's roundabout way of showing that he cares, yep. At this point, though, it just makes Takasugi feel awkward.]

I'm not tired yet.

[Head scratch. No helping it, he guesses.]

You wanna hang around then? I don't know how Zura does these on his own when they're this boring.

[He'll just stare at you for about a second.]

If you want to.

[Although this is Takasugi, looking for a way out.]

[That uncertainty is definitely a sign that Takasugi's still wary (with good reason to, he supposes), but he needs to know both Gintoki and Katsura won't be leaving him (again).]

You don't sound too keen. It'll be fun. [A thoughtful pause.] Like the old days.

It's not that I don't want to, I just...

[He is not used to sucking this bad at saying what he needs to. Anyway, have a bit of a sigh, a tiny smile.]

Okay. Let's hang out. [Forced cheer.] Maybe we'll get lucky.

[Maybe, huh? Filing that unsure response into his mind, Gintoki proceeds to walk down the street, something he's done far too many times for his liking now. Following a routine never really was his style.]

So anything interesting happen on your shift?

[Just a bit of small talk. Hopefully it would drive away the awkward.]

Not at all.

[Runs a hand through his hair, looking exasperated.]

I suppose I should be happy.
