True enough, Vergil had stubbornly refused to allow Yuna anywhere near the household chores since bringing her home from the clinic, which had been a careful and meticulous process in itself. Motorbikes aren’t exactly the safest option for somebody denied the use of one of their arms. Even so, it had been to his advantage that keeping busy meant that he hadn’t been constantly by her side or hovering, which was a decided improvement from the days previous ( ... )

To be honest, Yuna was more than grateful for any distraction he could give her, so when he wandered into the living room, as he’d done several times that day already, the summoner smiled easily. Speaking with him made the time go by faster, rather than simply laying around with nothing to do. She had never been much of a reader, and so it didn’t hold her attention for very long. Plus, holding it with one hand got...uncomfortable quickly.

Leaning her head back against the pillow propped up behind her neck, Yuna’s gaze followed Vergil as he crossed the room and moved to lean against the back of the couch. “Mm, couldn’t be better,” she said pleasantly, with a somewhat amused grin on her face. She could be better, but he had made sure that she was remarkably comfortable and well taken care of. Boredom and restlessness were the only two things she was suffering from, currently. Even the lingering pain in her head was gone ( ... )

Vergil’s expression relaxed a fraction at Yuna’s grin. Not for the first time for that which he had known her, he had to marvel at her ability to smile even after being seriously injured and then essentially confined. For his own part, he would cringe at the thought of suffering any permanent damage to his body, no matter how minor. Even moreso in the case of an arm. As it were, though, he was insistent at keeping her off her feet primarily due to the head injury. That is one thing he himself hadn’t had the misfortune of suffering from just yet.

Were that not the case, he’d offer to go for a walk with her somewhere. Or something. There’s nothing he can think of really, which is why as always he was stuck on small talk. “Only three,” he answered. He didn’t have to be anywhere until six, and normally he’d use this time for training anyway. Making an amused sound, he added, “Why, trying to get rid of me so you can escape at last?” Or worse, do some work around the apartment. Too bad for her, I finished everything.

Hrm. That did only ( ... )

Only three? She felt like she’d been awake for ages already. Sleep would probably make the time go by faster, but Yuna had already done so much of that already, especially while she’d been in the clinic. She didn’t think she could nap again if she tried ( ... )

Vergil’s brow drew in from his expression of mild amusement at Yuna’s registry of pain. It eased again just as quickly, though. No sense in worrying her, or more importantly emphasize the fact that she might be worrying him. Which, truthfully, she was. But that wasn’t something she could help. It was simply a case of new-found greater concern for her, along with a little self-admonition. But that honestly didn’t bear mentioning, since logically he already knew that he wasn’t truly at fault. Nor did what else had been on his mind on the night of Halloween. Not now.

He nodded in turn and when Yuna’s eyes met his he gave her a long and pensive look. It was partly feigned - deliberate - while in truth he was considering. No harm in doing it now. He betrayed a faint smile at her honest response, though. He’d have to remember to spend more time out here with her, rather than running around, if he truly wanted to do her service. Besides, despite being the aftermath of a crisis, he didn’t often get the chance to spend quite this much time ( ... )

Fortunately, Yuna completely missed the darkening of his expression as she blinked away the dull ache in the back of her head. It faded quickly, back into near nonexistence. She’d been trying very hard not to worry him since he’d managed to get her home. Insisting that she was going to be okay hadn’t seemed to work; even though he spent a lot of time away from the same room as herself, there was this sense of presence and mild hovering regardless. She didn’t mind it, but she didn’t want him to be so concerned. People got hurt all the time and recovered just fine; she shouldn’t be any different ( ... )

“Mhmm,” he simply replied, patiently waiting for Yuna to close her eyes as requested whilst betraying nothing of his intentions. Even when she did so he observed her a moment longer, both to purposely make her wait and to indulge a little on his own part, and allow him to reveal his unguarded expression. She was right - people do get hurt all the time, and most recover fine. But it’s become abundantly clear to him as of late that she is not just anybody. Not to him. It was a fact he found both puzzling and disturbing.

Shaking his head to dispel such notions - not now - he finally rose from behind the couch and ambled back towards his room. There was a reason he hadn’t wanted her down his side of the apartment beyond the need for privacy for her well-being, but he wasn’t going to be able to hide that for much longer. She’d be better soon, at the very least, so he may as well take care of this now. In a sense it was already overdue - he’d meant to do this the morning after Halloween ( ... )

Yuna sat in her warm spot on the couch with her hands clasped above her lap for quite some time, her eyes softly closed and her lips wearing a faint smile. She had barely heard the direction that he’d headed off to; Vergil made surprisingly little noise when he moved based on size and stature alone, though it had always seemed to match his personality. Yuna had never thought of him as particularly sneaky, but now that she thought about it, behind the darkness of her eyelids, he would probably be very good at it given the opportunity ( ... )

Vergil didn’t say a word as Yuna’s eyes rose to his. He simply gazed back, reading her expression calmly, hoping all the while he’d chosen wisely. He couldn’t quite keep the tiniest trace of a half-smile out of corner of his mouth though when she looked back at the small bundle of fur. He then decided that he most definitely had. Beyond the mere fact that she was taken by the creature seemingly immediately, with any luck the two of them would be able to keep each other occupied while he was away. He was a little surprised at just how much it pleased her, though.

He was far more surprised at her unguarded look of joy, apparently enamoured. It caught him off-guard as well. That’s new. He’d certainly never seen her turn that upon anybody before. Happy, yes, but... His eyes softened of their own volition and when she looked back up at him he didn’t immediately reply, momentarily lost for words. There was something about that unexpected tenderness that affected Vergil profoundly ( ... )

‘Good enough’ didn’t even begin to cover it. The furry gift wasn’t just the cutest thing she’d ever seen, though that did help. The softness and color of it’s fur, the way its tiny nose nuzzled against her hand, the way it curled up into a ball on her lap comfortably, these things helped too, but there was still more to it than that. Yuna wasn’t quite sure how to put it into words, but the gesture meant an incredible amount to her ( ... )

Perhaps Vergil ought not have been surprised by Yuna's gesture by now, recent events considered, but if her look of adoration a few seconds previous came as unexpected the sensation of her arm sliding about his shoulder did even moreso. It was a good thing - or maybe not - that her face was against his neck, since she couldn't see his eyes widen. The notion of the girl hugging him wasn't foreign by now since it had occurred a couple of times already, but that had been sudden, and it somehow felt more heart-felt intimate.

He could feel her breath against his skin as she spoke.

It was a miracle that he had even caught the words. He'd had the presence of mind at least to reach out with one hand and steady her, holding her against him in a manner that served as a medium between familiarity and propriety. He was as much conscious of caring for her as considerate of the fact that she was injured. Nonetheless, he discerned her quiet words.

You're wonderful. Now there was a foreign and conflicting concept. Inwardly he was torn between ( ... )

His skin felt pleasantly warm against her cheek as he moved to hold her, and it almost felt as is he were trying to carefully cradle her against him, as if she might suddenly fall to the ground and break like some sort of doll. It felt nice to be cared for this way, nice and yet strange all at the same time. It made her emotions swirl within her, made her eyes sting, but all in a good and warm way ( ... )

Vergil released Yuna without protest as she made to relax back into the couch again, though it wasn't without a muted sense of reluctance. He found himself wondering when she reverted to her usual serene demeanor: what is she thinking? He wish he knew. Motion was something he was flawless at reading, but people and their thoughts and feelings were other things entirely. Then again, he had a hard enough time with his own emotions.

What am I even doing? He was torn between continuing as if nothing had happened, and blurting out what had been on his mind the other night. If he was quite honest, it wasn't his own perceived mistake that was stopping him. It was the fact that for now he had to take care of her, which meant he didn't have the freedom to walk away or disappear if things turned ugly. He didn't have an avenue of retreat ( ... )

Yuna's hand remained where it was, laying lightly atop Vergil's forearm, as they spoke when he didn't move away or otherwise indicate that he disliked the contact. Still, as he broke eye contact with her to glance down at the kitten sitting top the blanket, Yuna did the same ( ... )

Vergil continued observing the kitten for a moment longer following Yuna's question, musing. He couldn't help but be a little amused by its intent staring. Given how huge they must appear in its eyes, it came as a surprise that it wasn't intimidated. On the contrary, it was either fearless or completely oblivious. He, not it. He'd been thinking of the creature as a material thing ( ... )

Yuna nodded. "Yes, the one who was...angry a lot." And apparently hated several of the other people at the meeting, including Dante's partner, Date. After that, Yuna listened to his story intently, attempting to hide the silly bouts of worry that formed as she heard about the danger he had been in.

It was certainly foolish of her to worry now, when the evening was done and over, and he was clearly safe. Vergil was fully capable of taking care of himself in a fight, but the idea of him being in danger always made her nervous, especially after having to take care of many of his wounds.

At the mention of the kind of fight he'd been involved in, Yuna tilted her head. "Oh, so Koujurou is a Weapon? You wielded him?" That was definitely good news. Vergil had been having difficulty with resonance, but if he'd been successful with another Weapon, than perhaps they were on the right track. "How was it?"

From the sounds of it, and the fact that he was completely unharmed, Yuna could guess that it had gone well enough, if not better
