[Inside the Clinic] [~12:00 am] [CLOSED] Gai, Watson spandexisyouth March 29 2011, 09:26:00 UTC
[They'd wound up gathering more than enough candy, and since Kakashi didn't have much of a sweet tooth Gai had some sweets to pass off to others. Catching sight of the clinic, Gai beamed. It was the perfect place. People had to be on duty there and they'd missed their chance to trick-or-treat. Cheerfully he headed in.]

Reverse trick-or-treat! [He kept his voice down, though there was some excitement in it. There was no telling who might be recovering, and he didn't want to disrupt anyone who might be healing. Gai wandered, looking for people stuck inside working.]

[Watson had been idling in the clinic this entire evening, passing off candy to those who knocked at the clinic doors with an obliging smile and nothing more. The holiday does not really have much meaning for him, although he is fairly entertained by everyone else dressing up, as long as he remembers to avert his eyes from the more scantily-dressed ones.]

[When Gai comes in, the clinic is empty except for Watson, and he looks up with a curious expression on his face. But he immediately brightens at seeing that it is Gai, that benevolent teacher of his. Watson has benefited much from their light exercises, as can be seen by the improved color on his face lately.]

Good evening, sir! Reverse trick-or-treat?

[Gai beams when he sees who wound up on duty. He rather likes teaching and talking with Watson. It's an interesting and pleasant change to be teaching an adult as opposed to young people; he likes both in different ways. Gai's got a sheet over his shoulder which had been his costume, but it was easier to move around the city when not wearing it.]

Good evening and exactly! We have too much candy, and so I have brought some in case people were busy here and could not get out. Or if there were injuries. But I am not hearing anyone?

[He holds out the pillowcase. They'd been operating on rather short notice, not being familiar with the customs, so they'd used what was on hand.]

I have many things I have no idea what they are. But some should be tasty!

[Nothing like a Gai beam to make Watson's own smile widen, and he appears pleased at the offerings. He gestures for Gai to have a seat next to him, giving the sheet over Gai's shoulder a cursory glance before being completely taken up with the candy.

See, Watson had deliberately gotten candy that he did not like to give away. So that he would not be tempted to eat them. They were delicious things, but he does not really like them too sweet or audaciously colorful.]

How charming! This is very kind in you, Gai. Everyone seems to have gone off for the night, but you will find a grateful soul in me. Let's see... [Watson is in the middle of sorting things out, pointing out the different kinds that he knows to Gai and putting to the side everything that he doesn't know (a great amount of it, indeed)-- when the alarm blares out.]

[He's very interested in learning about the candy, but the moment the alarm goes off Gai's attention is elsewhere. The sheet gets dropped and he's checking the network, attempting to figure out what's going on. A moment later he looks at Watson.]

If it is fine by you I will take up position here. It sounds like there is a disturbance, and there will be injured. This way they will not be vulnerable.

[Gai pulls out his nunchucks and his entire body stance changes from the cheerful and relaxed one he held a few moments ago to being very aware, poised to move.]

[Watson seems a little anxious, but he nods and immediately begins puttering around the clinic to prepare for the expected injuries. There's a lot to do, foremost of all to get out of his fluffy slippers and put on more sensible clothing. Next, he sets about preparing the operation table, implements, and the most basic stores necessary for the common injuries.]

I should contact the other doctors, but-- [fumbles for his communicator.]

[Gai watches, trying to stay out of the way. He's moved the candy and sheet to a corner and is wondering if instead of the nunchucks he should switch to partial form; he can't tell if it's a Witch/Kishin problem or internal conflict. Seeing the fumbling, Gai steps closer to Watson. He wants to make sure Watson knows he's there to support.]

Can I help you with that? Or anything else?

[Gratefully lets him have it, and nods.]

Thank you. If you would please contact the other doctors -- Winry Rockbell and Naomi Kimishima -- and confirm their current state of health, I would be gratefu--

[He doesn't get to finish that statement. No sooner had Watson started dictating his message that the madness wavelength billows out through the city like a thundercloud trapping all the senses with a muted cloud of something.

When Watson opens his eyes, he finds himself not in the clinic, but back in the factory, facing those horrid golems. His heart is thudding with fear, his forehead breaks out into a sweat, and he makes a despairing noise when he realizes that he is trapped again.

In the clinic, Watson has thrown himself to the floor at the onset of the madness wavelength, and he's currently staring unseeingly at Gai, looking frightened and pale.]

[Gai had been pulling out his device when Watson tumbled.]

Watson?

[He kneels, arm going underneath Watson's head to support it as he looks at the doctor.]

Watson, can you hear me?

[Gai's free hand waves in front of Watson's face. He's got no idea what's going on. There are no attacks he knows of that are invisible like this, and Gai can't see any enemy. His eyes scan for anywhere that someone could even be hiding in, and Gai sees nothing. At least he can still fall on his training to adapt. Gai takes Watson's pulse; it's fast. There's something that appears to be scaring the other man. Quickly Gai gets up, tucking a pillow underneath Watson's head. He takes his partial form, right arm turning scythe-like, hoping that will allow him to see whatever is attacking. It doesn't. Nonetheless, Gai stands over Watson's body, ready to defend him.

He reaches for the communications device in the meantime. Maybe Kimishima or Rockbell could help somehow.]

[All the time that Gai is attending to Watson, the man has been keening and whining in his throat like a dog. In his mind's eye, what he sees is a golem restraining him to an operating table, a cold, metal one. Are they going to cut him again, gouge his spine out and turn him into a monster? The golem is standing guard over him, Watson can't escape. With wide eyes, he watches as Gai retrieves his communicator, seeing it as an ugly, sinister tool, and something comes over him.

He will fight it, he decides. Fight to survive. In a surprising display of strength, Watson surges up (he does not know when his arms became free) to shove Gai away, to struggle and to fight with fists and nails.]

You will not ruin me again! [shouting!]

[The shove comes as a small surprise; it's obvious Watson's not all right, but Gai hadn't expected it. He takes a moment to focus, to drop the partial form. There's no way he can risk being only one-handed with Watson like this.]

I have not ruined you. I have not harmed you. Watson, it is me, Gai.

[It doesn't seem like Watson could hear him, but Gai tries anyway. He accepts the blows that land. His students have given him much worse, and it's far more important to get Watson immobilised than to worry about what may mean bruises tomorrow. With care Gai attempts to grab Watson's wrists, tries to hold the other man still.]

Watson, I need you to focus, please.

[There's no way he can access the network like this. Gai has to hope that somehow he or Watson finds a way to get the doctor back in touch with reality.]

[Watson isn't listening to Gai. In a private world in his mind, he is being restrained, made game of, and despairingly helpless against this new attack. In a moment of desperation, he remembers the magic they had given him before.]

No! [With a keening howl not unlike a dog, Watson suddenly transforms into a very large English Mastiff, teeth all bared. The dog is still clad in Watson's clothing, but it doesn't seem to mind. All it wants to do now is to get through Gai and maybe find escape. It leaps for the man.]

[Now that was something Gai was entirely unprepared for. He'd heard about the duel that happened while he was on his mission, but hearing rumors is not the same as suddenly being attacked by a large dog. Gai twists, trying to keep his throat out of range of the jaws and claws.

His arm goes around the front of the dog, trying to hold across the chest and front legs, attempting to keep the Watson from breaking loose and harming Gai or others.]

Watson.

[Whether or not the other man can hear him right now doesn't matter. Sooner or later Watson would come to himself.]

[Watson is snarling and growling and barking at Gai, thrashing around and trying to get past these terrible, terrible arms to get at his throat. There's the instinct of the dog there to keep on going, that artery, that vein there is so close! A lot of what he's saying is lost in guttural sounds, and his muzzle is foaming from exertion.]

This is all attempts/tries to. If you want Watson to break free or Gai to fail something, go for it. spandexisyouth April 1 2011, 06:10:17 UTC
[There's definite risk here. Watson's dog-form jaws look powerful, and it's obvious he's trying to attack. Gai can't just be defensive any more.

With as much care as he can manage, Gai attempts to get Watson on his side, pinned to the ground. This way he can use his weight to keep the dangerous legs from clawing him and one hand to hold the jaws still, away from him. Then, with a freed hand, he removes the his sash that doubles as headband and belt, knotting it and trying to slip it over the paws. If he can get Watson hog-tied, Gai is no longer at risk and he can focus more on calming down his friend. Somehow.

Ah. The pillowcase. Should he manage to tie up Watson, the next step is dumping the candy out and putting the pillowcase over Watson's head. Suddenly losing sight of his target might calm the dog down, and Gai can try to be soothing.]

[Watson is having none of that. None of that! Except while his dog form is powerful, it's also still stuck in his clothing, and it hinders him horribly. Watson bucks and thrashes and manages to sink his teeth into Gai's forearm, locking on with the determination born from desperation.

The smell of blood so close to his nose is sickening and thrilling at the same time (who knew golems had blood?) and Watson perpetually worries about being flung off like this.

He doesn't even notice much that his paws have been tied together, but when he tries to move but can't, he wriggles uncomfortably and the pressure of his jaws on the arm lessen significantly.]
