Kanaya isn't sure what to expect when she gets Kurt's message. If it has nothing to do with Vriska, then what's so important? But it doesn't matter, if he needs to talk, she'll be there. He's her friend, after all, and that's what friends do. Really, does he even have to ask? Her response is almost instantaneous.

Of Course I Can
Though I Dont Think You Ever Told Me Which Apartment Is Yours

Oh, right. God, how did he forget about that? Stupid. The fact that he was just a little distracted was no excuse. He took another bite of frozen yogurt as a sort of repentance before responding.

9I in Casualty Communal. Sorry. The door is unlocked. I'm going to stay sat on the couch. Apologies in advance if I am a horrible host.

She smiles slightly. She isn't concerned about that at all, though it's nice of him to apologize. That's something that can be easily brushed off, and she gets the feeling that what he needs to talk to her about, well, isn't.

All Right
Ill Be There Soon

True to her word, it isn't that long before she knocks on his door, and, remembering his previous message, lets herself in.

Kanaya will find Kurt curled up on his couch nursing his frozen yogurt and humming along to Alanis Morissette. He's not crying or emotionally broken or anything, not really. He's had worse disappointments, worse challenges to deal with. This still hurts, though, and he still wants to talk about it.

"Hey," he says in greeting, his voice and his smile contemplative and sad. He moves his legs up so there's more room on the couch. "Thanks for coming. Make yourself at home. Oh, and help yourself to whatever else is in my fridge. There might even be some contraband potato chips in the pantry. It's a good sign that I'm not eating those and the frozen yogurt at the same time."

She smiles when she sees him. She knows it's not the best of circumstances for him, but it's been a while since they talked, and she's missed him. "Thank you for the offer," she says, though she doesn't take him up on it. Instead she sits down in the space he'd just made - back straight, knees together, hands in her lap - and turns to him.

Her smile fades, and her expression becomes serious. "What happened?"

He sets the frozen yogurt on his lap, looking down at it thoughtfully. It's possibly Kanaya wasn't actually the best person to call for this kind of... advice. Troll relationships were different, for one thing, and there was also the matter of her age. It was easy to forget she was only the human equivalent of thirteen years old, sometimes.

"Nothing... too terrible. It's sort of... relationship-related. I know trolls don't do relationships the same way as humans do, but..." He sighs. This is harder than he thought it would be. "If you really like someone, and they really like you back, but they don't want to get involved with you for a reason you think is pretty stupid... is it better to push them? Or respect their decision and stick with just being friends?"

He dug his spoon into the pint of yogurt almost angrily, then looked over to Kanaya.

He's right. They don't do relationships the same way, but... with this, she feels like she can sympathize. She's had her heart broken before. Her hands curl into fists, and she looks down at her knees, doing her best to keep her expression neutral, until she gets this answer.

"May I ask what the reason is?"

"Yes. Yes you may. I want to know if it's at all a good reason, or if I'm just... being selfish and needy." He takes a bite of the frozen yogurt - it isn't even all that good and why couldn't he have bought real ice cream for once? You can't anticipate things like this, though. They just happen, and at least he's got some facsimile of ice cream to pretend to glue his heart back together with.

"He's worried that BREW will send one of us back home eventually. Which, ha, I don't really get. Because the feelings are there either way, whether we're acting on them or not, right? We'll miss each other no matter what. Besides, aren't there literally hundreds of other ways you can get hurt? In any relationship? Friendship included?" He sighs, and frowns over at Kanaya. "I think he's being an idiot. Am I wrong?"

"I wouldn't say he's being an idiot. I understand his caution, and he's right. If BREW does send one of you home, it will do so without warning." She's quiet for a few seconds. Kurt's flushed for someone not from his world, and it's different.

"That being said, I think you should enjoy it while you can. You've both been given a great opportunity. If it were me... even with those risks, I would take advantage of it."

"Exactly. But if it wasn't BREW, I bet he'd use something else to justify dragging his feet. It makes me wonder..." He doesn't finish the thought, just continues on another note. "I know relationships are confusing and there's a lot of thought that has to go into them, even in a more perfect world, but I think you're right. We should be taking advantage of the fact that we like each other. Not everyone finds something like that, you know? I kind of thought I never would."
