Characters: Maito Gai and Rock Lee, then Maito Gai and Hatake Kakashi.
Location: The park
Rating: PG-13 for Awkwardness
Time: October 30th, after training
Description: Armed with confusing advice and well-meaning intentions, Lee corners his teacher. Then there's the fallout.
There was nothing quite like sparring with his teacher.
In some ways it was what fighting himself had been like, but more- like himself, but stronger. Better. Faster, sharper. He knew every move that Gai would make- had memorized the precise angles of his kicks, spent countless hours practicing Gai's punches- but that knowledge couldn't approach the mix of deadly power and grace that Gai wielded as easily as his bright smile.
It was a rush that he couldn't get anywhere else, and when the spar ended Lee was left sweat-soaked and panting for breath. His ribs ached in a way that he knew would mean bruises, but it was a good ache- the dull pain of exertion and a good fight, instead of the sharp near-electric crackle of fractures.
Lee ran a hand through his sweaty hair and pushed his bangs back from his face, sucking in deep gulps of cool morning air, and beamed. "Thank you, Gai-sensei."
