Characters: Kadaj and Aerith
Location: Flower Garden behind Casualty Communal
Rating: PG (wow).
Time: Morning of the 28th
Description: Kadaj and Aerith meet. Great description!

Kadaj was on a leash. A tight leash held by none other than Sephiroth himself. The poor remnant felt like he was choking under the constant pressure to restrain himself. It wasn’t him - it wasn’t how he did things. If he wanted something, he got it. End of story. There was none of this holding back business back on Gaia.

So hunting down Strife and the Turks had been one of those priorities that had been knocked down, way down, due to Sephiroth’s personal desires. Kadaj tried to tell himself that in order to get out of here he would need to obey Sephiroth. And so, he considered this a personal mission in strengthening his willpower. It should be simple.Should be. The fact was, he had other things he wanted to do and obeying Sephiroth was… difficult. Difficult to resist temptation. Difficult to not want to hurt Strife and the Turks, and show them was a spare could really do! He had his own pride to protect.

It was still early when Kadaj wandered the streets of Death City. Most people were still asleep. Lazy people. The sun was just beginning to come full circle over the horizon as it warmed the night’s air away. “Sitting around is useless,” Kadaj said to himself out loud. “Humans waste time. Not us. Not me. Not Mother.”

“Humans waste so much time in life.” He continued walking and something colorful caught his eye. A flower? “Arguing. Driving. Relationships.” The teen curled his lip up in disgust. The friendship Cloud and Sephiroth shared was also a waste of time. Who in their right mind got so close to their enemy?

In his wanderings he had found something. A flower garden.

Kadaj stopped just at the edge of the flower patch. Flowers were one of the Planet’s gifts to humans. Humans saw them as beautiful, hopeful objects. They even gave them to each other as gifts displaying gratitude or love. Kadaj couldn’t quite comprehend why an uprooted soon-to-be dead plant was all that significant, but he immediately decided he did not like them and what they represented.

“I’ll crush you,” he breathed through a clenched jaw. “Ruin you like they have ruined me!” Just as he was about to lift his foot a small beetle emerged from the garden and scurried its way closer. It went over the remnant’s leather boot, not around it, and stayed there. Kadaj glared down at the insignificant insect. It seemed the beetle rather enjoyed its new space. He tapped the toe of his boot on the ground and the beetle carelessly fell off, landing precariously on its back. He watched with amusement as it desperately swung from side to side in order to right itself. “It’s pointless to struggle.” Kadaj managed a small grin as he spoke to the beetle. “Just give up.”

There was no real indication of Aerith’s approach. But Kadaj knew she was there. He made no move to turn and face her. Instead, he titled his head to the side and gave a predatory scowl; still half looking at the beetle which was now upright. Aerith didn’t bother Kadaj as much as she bothered the ex-general. That didn’t mean she did not deserve to be punished, however.

“What do you want?” His voice was strained as he tried to keep himself in check. The last thing he wanted was to get on Sephiroth’s bad side. Still, that temptation lingered dangerously close. He took a single step towards the garden and with a satisfying crunch he crushed a budding flower. With the other foot, Kadaj used to toe of his boot again to turn the beetle over onto its back once more. “What did I tell you?” He told the bug.
