Grocery shopping, heh. strengthtohelp March 6 2011, 07:58:13 UTC
Noa needed to do his grocery shopping for the week as well. He appreciated that food was free since he was looking for a job. With that being the case, he learned quickly he still needed to consider what he took home. If he brought everything he wanted in one go, he could easily forget about one or a few items and let them rot. He took no more than two brown paper bags these days, so seeing this pale man with shaggy hair plucking food stuffs off the shelves to his heart's content made him chuckle. "It looks like you're enjoying yourself here," he said with a laugh.

As his hands lifted a box full of strawberry rhubarb pie, Beyond Birthday's head turned to face the fellow that was having a chuckle at him. B was not embarrassed, or even phased by this.

"Really?" He glanced innocuously between the pie, and the rest of the things in the cart. Then he shrugged.

"Hm. I thought it was an ordinary shopping trip, yet I must confess, I am certainly looking forward to some of this."

He tipped his head to the side. "Either that, or you can't decide what you can do without for the meantime," he said, gesturing at all the items the other man had gathered. "Are you new to Death City?"

... Was he implying he didn't know how to do his own shopping? Kind of annoying. Life skills were at least something he thought B had more of than L. He decided not to dignify it further.

"Yes, I am."

He hadn't meant it as a slight, though there was no way for Noa to know whether the other person had taken it as such. Noa figured -- correctly, so it turned out -- he was new and tried to connect by sharing an anecdote from his first week in Death City. "I see," he said and flashed a smile. "How do you like being here so far?"

B never truly thought the person had ill intent behind his questions. Of course, he couldn't relate to his good intentions, either. He met Noa's smile with a merely thoughtful look.

"Being brought here by the BREW was a good turn for me," he replied matter-of-factly after a brief pause. "Yes. It's like a dream."

"That's good to hear. It's hard to adjust at first, but being here isn't so bad, even though homesickness comes up sometimes," he said. He glanced at a nearby shelf and grabbed a loaf of bread to put in his cart among a few other items. "There's plenty of things to do, and the staff is more than kind."

"I noticed," he smiled wryly, thinking about the help he'd already gotten from Spirit, and to a smaller extent from Liz. Kindness was a virtue that B did appreciate, although mostly in the sense that it was easier to get his way with people like that.

"At any rate, I don't think homesickness will be a problem for me. I have lived in many places."

"Oh, so that would make Death City another place to add to your list," he observed. "You sound like you're doing well here so far. I've been here over a month now, which might not be much compared to some of the other guests, but I'm more than happy to help in any way possible if you need." He moved away from behind his cart and held out a hand. "My name is Noa. It's nice to meet you."

B also took a step away from his cart, accepting the handshake firmly.

"Ryuzaki. It's a pleasure," he said, putting the hand in his pocket after it was done shaking. So, he'd been here a month, but was still relatively new. B wondered how helpful that would be, but it couldn't hurt to take him up on the offer.

"Are you a meister or a weapon, Noa?"

"Me?" Noa blinked. "I'm a Weapon, but I'm not sure what kind yet," he said, glancing over his shoulder. He meditated and practiced on his own ever since Spirit showed him how, but it didn't seem to work. Although, he hadn't had a chance to spar against anyone properly, which worked for some people. In any case, he wasn't going to throw himself into a pool to test it out. "Weapon forms seem to relate somehow to the person, so perhaps I'm a sword or a whip. I have used both in battle."
