Characters: Kanaya Maryam, Shinjiro Aragaki, Dr Stein Location: Stein's Lab Rating: PG Time: 10-14, after training Description: Kanaya is Stein's new lab rat troll.
While all of Death City has an almost themepark type creepiness to it, the Patchwork Lab somehow seems to really raise the bar without apparently trying. Cast in dim colors, the land around it is stark and dead, and even under the high, laughing sun it seems somehow gloomy and almost haunted.
As the two approach, one of the front doors clicks and swings open. From the side of the doorway, a partially mechanical mouse with red eyes watches them.
Shinjiro has remained quiet through out their trip, meaning to be a solid but non-interfering comfort to his Partner. He doesn't like this idea-- sure, he has no reason to distrust Stein, but basic common sense dictates that people with giant screws in their head are a little off to say the least. But Kanaya needs this, and there's little other options. Like hell he was going to let her dreams keep bothering her if he could help.
Though the Lab, and the suddenly opening doors, sure don't help that distrust any.
Past the doors is a dim hallway, lit only by low fluorescent bulbs and the different hues of light shining out of several different doors. One door is open, and a low blue light spills into the hallway. From that comes the voice of an almost cheerful sounding Stein.
That tone just makes things worse, almost like it's Vriska getting ready to do something terrible. It's a little scary, but comparing him to Vriska makes her feel more ready to handle it. She pauses right outside the door he'd indicated, steeling herself, and then goes in.
Shinjiro says nothing: this was Kanaya's deal, not his. Him butting in wouldn't do anyone any good. but still, being able to watch was calming his nerves. If he had stayed home he would have been pacing a hole in the floors by now.
So he simply crosses his arms and watches, following at her heels.
Sorrrry guys! I had life and went awol. I should be faster now if you want to keep goingscrew_disorderFebruary 10 2011, 09:36:10 UTC
Stein has a mug of coffee in hand, and off to the side one of his beakers is smelling heavily of joe, percolating with a bunsen burner under it. Stein seems to be in a good mood and spins his chair around to face them -- overshooting the strength so he spins half a dozen times before sticking out a leg to come to a halt.
"Good morning! You must be Miss Kanaya and her partner. I've been looking forward to seeing you." For all the world, he sounds genuine. And while the lab itself is full of questionable things in jars, the only thing nearby Stein is a clipboard with several papers attached.
"Yes. This is Shinjiro." She knows that Stein probably wouldn't care, but it's common courtesy to introduce him.
She swallows before speaking again. "Where would you like to start?" She isn't one to get to the point quite so quickly, usually, but the sooner she could get out of there, the better.
The things int he jars are already making Shinji nervous-- was this how scientists always set their labs up? It's like something out of a cheesy horror movie... only not quite so cheesy when it's real. He digs his hands even deeper into his pockets, slouching. He's not scared, this is nothing compared to things during the Dark Hour, but it is making the hairs on his neck stand right up.
Stein brightens a little at their nervousness. It was always a little fun to provoke a reaction out of people. Anyway, it was a good reaction to have. He definitely wasn't a person to be blindly trusted
( ... )
Kanaya's a little surprised, but she catches the chair before it hits her. She sits straight, on the edge, knees together, answering the questions as best she can. She isn't a troll biologist, but even she knows at least the basics. She goes through it slowly, thoroughly, giving as much detail as she can think of. She hands it back when she finishes.
Shinjiro takes his seat as well, arching a brow at the doctor. "I'm fine, thanks." Anything Stein could have him do sure doesn't sound fun, and he needs to pay attention to what he's doing with Kanaya regardless.
Still, just watching the troll write isn't exactly thrilling.
