Luckily for Sohki, Sasuke did happen to be home. Just back from training, actually, a routine he couldn't- or wouldn't- give up, despite the location. It was soothing, in some ways. He'd barely been in the house fifteen minutes when the knock on the door happened- and for a single moment Sasuke almost groaned. Undoubtedly a caller for Saralegui, or Yuuri. Every time he turned around someone else was tracking through an apartment that was meant for two people. And even that, sometimes, had been too much for Sasuke.

Still, as much as he wanted to ignore the knocker, some deeply rooted sense of having manners his parents had taught him had him dragging his scuffed body back to the door. Tugging it open, he paused at seeing who it was-- dark eyes lifting to the face of the... kirin. "What are you doing here?" It was a greeting, regardless of how brusque it sounded.

While he couldn't hear Sasuke in the apartment, Sohki could smell the teen inside. He was pleased that despite their previous disagreement, the young ninja was still willing to at least greet him at the door. While the greeting was sharp, it didn't bother the kirin in the slightest.

He flashed Sasuke a cheerful smile before gesturing to the basket looped over his arm. "I come with gifts," Sohki announced before asking, "May I come in?"

"Not if it's tea," He said, and though it could have been a joke, the way Sasuke blocked the door and stared at the older man made it obvious he wasn't playing around. The kid could hold a grudge like anyone's business, after all, and while Sohki did have the best tea in Death City- the ninja wasn't finished being sore of the whole embarrassing ordeal. Even if he had learned from the experience.

"You've nothing to fear, Sasuke-kun," Sohki said with a friendly chuckle. My my, what a delightfully suspicious ninja indeed! While he was all about finding entertainment for himself, there were times when he knew it was best not to.

Lifting up the basket on his arm, Sohki patted it with his other hand. "There is only one gift in here for you, and it's far from consumable."

Sasuke regarded him suspiciously for a moment longer, his gaze moving from the man's face to the basket under his arm. You could hide anything in a basket like that, but it wasn't like he thought this guy truly a threat. So with a scoff, he closed his eyes briefly before turning away from the door and walking into the apartment in an obvious invitation.

Sasuke really was far too cute for his own good! The thought made him want to latch onto the young ninja happily, but now wasn't the time for such things. Instead, he 'watched' in silent amusement as Sasuke turned and walked deeper into the apartment.

He stepped in and closed the door behind him. Moving deeper into the apartment, Sohki placed the basket on the table before glancing at the disgruntled teen. "Have you been well?" Sohki asked.

"Whatever," He said defensively, which wasn't really an answer, but he wasn't about to spill about the foul mood and the nightmares that had kick started, or that he was still sore about the embarrassment. Sasuke turned to face the man and crossed his arms over his chest. He was keenly aware of how dusty he was- he wasn't one to track mud and dirt through the house, after all- but he also didn't feel comfortable stripping and changing with company around. "What do you have for me?" Straight to the point.

The defensive reply didn't faze the kirin one way or another. If Sasuke had truly not wanted to see him, the young ninja wouldn't have allowed him entrance in the first place. He always found those types amusing, to say the least, but he did his best to contain his amusement so as not to further upset his little Sasuke.

"Quite the eager little one, hmm?" He sounded with a smile before reaching into the basket to withdraw something wrapped in a delicate cloth. Holding it within two hands, Sohki offered it out to the ninja as he said, "Here, I believe this will be of some use to you."

One of his eyes squinted, a cockeyed glare at the comment of his being little. Of all the things that annoyed him, that was one at the top of the list. But luckily, he was distracted by the finely wrapped present, and Sasuke's arms uncrossed as his gaze fell on the gift. The thing that stopped him was the style of the cloth- it was familiar to him. A design not quite like one he'd seen before, but similar.

He stepped forward, pausing to glance up at Sohki before he reached out to take what was offered. But as soon as it touched his palm, Sasuke froze.

Sohki's expression remained neutrally cheerful even as Sasuke reacted to his wording. He waited for the young ninja to step forward to take the gift he offered the teen. It didn't take long, and as it was taken from his grasp, the kirin dropped his hands back down to his side.

"While I was there, I thought that you would be in need of one of these," he said with a smile on his lips. "It's just unfortunate that I was only able to bring only one back for you, but I trust one will suffice?" Sohki asked. His eyes remained closed throughout the entire exchange, but that didn't detract from the enjoyment he was receiving from Sasuke's reaction.

He'd heard Mifune talking about it, but somehow he'd doubted weapons even existed in this world. Nevermind something he was familiar with. Sasuke didn't need to unfold the fabric to know precisely what rested in his palm in that moment. But it still took him a long few seconds before he brought the blade closer to his own body and started unraveling it.

When he saw the black kunai cradled in the fabric in his hand, he was struck violently with the memory of when he'd received his first real weapons. It climbed into his throat and swallowed his voice, and he couldn't look up. He could only stare down at the blade. Sasuke had been given many presents in his life- mostly from adoring girls in his class- but none of that could compare to this.

His grip tightened around the gift.

The silence told more than words ever could, and the playful smile he had faded into a far more honest one at that. He didn't need his abilities to be able to read the hearts of warriors. He'd read enough of them throughout his time to know the basic desires and what they held sentimentality.

Sasuke was a ninja, after all, and while what he'd offered was only a small token, Sohki knew that it was also a small reminder of just who he was. A small taste of home, if one wanted to be poetic.

"We've all come here through such extraordinary circumstances, that it's often easy to forget what makes us us," Sohki said despite the silence.

Reaching forward, his hands came to wrap around Sasuke's tight grip. There was no gesture of wanting to remove it, but instead he held the ninja's hands in comfort as he said, "A painter cannot paint without a brush. This gift may not be of much use against the enemies of this world, but I do hope that having this will bring you some level of comfort, Sasuke Uchiha."

Sasuke swallowed thickly, trying to force his heart back into his chest where it belonged. He was rarely so moved by something, and maybe it was as much the shock of the gift as who it came from, but it was a long few moments wherein he didn't shake Sohki's hand from his own before he looked up. Eyes clear, but very dark, through the shade of his fringe. The young ninja wasn't one for decadent words of thanks, or heart-to-hearts that weren't spurred by anger and violence- but he silently wrapped it back in the soft fabric and held the kunai tightly in one hand.

It didn't mean he'd forgiven Sohki for the betrayal of the tea, but his grudge was significantly lessened.

Sohki kept his hands on Sasuke's until it became obvious that it was no longer welcome. He didn't mind in the slightest, and was simply pleased that the young ninja had enjoyed the gift. That was all that mattered.

Pulling his hands back, the kirin inclined his head towards Sasuke before reaching over to pick up his basket again. "If that's everything, then I should leave you in peace."

Sasuke took a step to the side to clear the way, keeping his gaze on Sohki's face a moment longer before looking to the door. He could let himself out. Normally he might assist someone in leaving- but Sasuke wasn't kicking him out. He was letting him leave of his own volition, and though Sohki might not have known him well enough to realize it, it meant much more than the manners he could have shown.

Sorry for the wait! Been slowly catching up on tags since I got back ._. MISSED YOU! holy_prankster February 26 2011, 23:50:28 UTC
While he may have been blind, Sohki didn't miss the gesture that Sasuke had displayed to him. It was a pleasing notion, and the kirin inclined his head respectfully towards the young ninja.

"Do take care of yourself, Sasuke-kun," Sohki fondly murmured before heading back out the door.

Sasuke truly was quite an interesting one to observe, and the kirin hoped that he could continue to do so.
