[He felt bad, being here at Nanako's birthday party, and not even having a gift for her. But then, back home they had already celebrated her birthday; were getting ready for Christmas, in fact.

Christmas in a hospital, but that was beside the point. But while he tried to not look out of place, Souji felt just a little bit awkward, though by looking at him you would never know it; some water in his hand, and a small smile on his face.

[Spotted this one from a mile away, yes, and spend just a bit of time debating on whether he should approach him or not...

[He's been watching you, Mustang. So it's not really a surprise when you come over, and he gives a small nod.]

[Gives a small nod and he sets his cup on a passing table.]

A pretty bad habit. You should think about quitting. [Glances at him, his lips quirking slightly.]

[Rueful. Doesn't speak again, though, until they're outside. He's thumbing one out, lighting up, clearly enjoying it.]

Don't smoke as much as I used too, though.

[He waits until he's ready, a hand on his hip as his smile widens slightly.]

That's always a start. Though I can't imagine the atmosphere here helps with lowering the amount of packs you go through.

[A small laugh.] No, not always.

You learn to appreciate the smaller things in life because of the pressure, I suppose.

[He looks away and nods.]

That's true. It's the little things that keep you moving through the hard times as best you can. I think most people will agree to that.

[Another drag, a moment's delay. He's comfortable with the silence, in spite of everything.]

So, how have you been settling in?

[He's comfortable with the silence, taking the time to look around. It's nice to have someone else who doesn't need to keep talking all the time. That can get tiring.]

I've been doing all right. There's a lot to take in at first, but once you see what there is to see, it's easy enough to settle in. There are some things I plan to do already.

Oh? Like what? [Pause.] If it's all right of me to ask, anyway.

Of course, it's fine. [Nods slightly.] I plan to take up the morning training that's being offered. I've also been approached to help organize some things, when it comes to Arisato-san and his group.

[More like accosted then approached, but either way, he had gotten a yes out of him.]

I'm not sure yet. [And he really has no idea; he'll know in a few days.]
