He didn't care if she was sick, all the pent-up anger and spite that had twisted and wound itself around his heart (or his illusion of one) burst. Red clouded his vision as he suddenly brought his leg out to swiftly kick her head, not holding back. The girl wasn't human she wasn't innocent- this was what she deserved and although Allen's words haunted him he didn't stop.

Perhaps it was pure foolishness that he went through with this despite Allen's desperate wishes. After getting to know the boy Lavi still couldn't understand him, how he found his way into his heart and mind and stuck himself there like a thorn.

"Hey, let's play a game. You like games, right?" His voice dripped with venom as he spoke, circling her small form. One blade, sharp and bright in the dazzling sun, stuck out of his arm.

Her vision went white when he kicked her, neck popping uncomfortably as she fell with a cry. She rolled, managing to avoid falling into her own mess. It took her a moment to recover enough to attempt rising to her knees once more, but Rhode staggered, ears still ringing from the blow.

"I know you do," she responded bitterly, managing a shaky, nasty smile. "Not a good place for your playacting, though- Your friends aren't here to believe your lies." Rhode was well aware it wasn't wise to goad him, but she knew it was much easier for someone to slip up when they were enraged.

That wouldn't be a far fall for the Bookman, based on how hard he'd kicked her.

"I'm not playing." And with that he punches her again with his normal hand, this time aimed at her face. He wasn't ready to cut her yet, but he would. He only wished he could finish her off with his hammer. That would be the icing on the cake.

Lavi grabbed her hair, grip tight, and shoved her again to the floor. He hoped the roof gravel hurt. "You will die here, you know." Maybe not on this roof, but in this world she would.

The sensation of cartilage crunching in her nose brought tears to her eyes, and she brought a hand up to her face automatically to cover it. Blood dripped onto her fingers, but just as the pain really started to set in--

"Let go!" Rhode grabbed for the wrist holding her hair, cringing at the smart of his jerking grip. It was a futile attempt that only made it more painful when he shoved her down, hand that had been covering her bloodied nose jarred into hitting it again. The Noah couldn't stop herself from crying out at the fresh stabs of pain, choking back a sob as she tried to get some purchase to push herself up. The gravel was sticking to her hand, the metallic taste of her own blood hot in her mouth as she shouted.

"Mby fambly will rip you apart the instant you get home if you kill me," she coughed, voice thick from her injured nose.

Torture wasn't something Lavi particularly liked and so he didn't feel much like laughing at her pain, despite enjoying the payback. Instead he only walked over and sat the sole of his boot on her head, pressing it further into the floor. "I'll take that chance."

And without hesitating the sword protruding from his arm aimed for her head.

Lavi had never seen what Lenalee had seen in the Ark. Allen at his worst, with the light of rage burning deep in his eyes like a phoenix's scream from the pits of hell. He'd seen what had been happening with both dread, horror, and revulsion. This wasn't the way to solve anything, this wasn't a battlefield where the deaths would have meaning even if he hated every moment of it. This was raw brutality - beastly and monstrous like a black cancer that seeped into every pore.

He'd torn his way through the building, moving as fast as he could despite the heat that made him feel ill. He could almost hear the roaring of his own blood thundering in his ears as his feet hit the stairs in rapid succession. He had to get there on time. Before Lavi became what he was obviously hating.

Don't fight the Earl with hate, idiot student.Cross's words drifted back to him as he came up the stairs and smashed open the door with one hard slam of his body against. This wasn't right. Allen caught sight of Lavi's blade streaking down like a comet and ( ... )

No, no, I don't want to die-

Rhode struggled, trying to escape from beneath the Exorcist's foot, fingers scraping the ground desperately. "Don't, don't do it, you'll ruin Lav- Lavi-" It was a weak excuse, a last attempt, but then the metal was flashing and she closed her eyes, screaming.

"Tyki!The world stopped ( ... )

He was so close to ending this problem now, to end their war back home and get him one step closer to leaving the Order and moving on with his life of lies and personas. He just wanted to act and not think, pure instinct. What he was doing was... cruel? Inhuman? Isn't that what he was supposed to be, when everything else had been stripped away? Inhuman, emotionless, and silent.

Allen was met with an equally powerful and threatening look, his eye burning with dark anger. How dare he! He couldn't agree with Allen, he couldn't move onto his level and see the world as something more than black and white. People were just ink on paper and he couldn't hold... feelings of regret and disgust and... and...

Hate. Guilt.

"...Get out of my way!" He nearly screamed, voice trembling with fury. "I don't care what this is-" He lurched forward, attempting to shove Allen back, and if he tripped over Rhode, oh well.

"I don't care!" He didn't. He really didn't.... right? He forced away thoughts of doubt. He couldn't afford a break down right now.

"By doing your job! She's our enemy!" Maybe he was lacking in sanity. Lavi had lost something on that ark- or was it before that? When he saw blood in a bamboo forest and held a playing card up towards the sky. He was losing himself, he knew it in Rhode's dream world but he fervently denied it and he was losing it again.

Something in the back of his mind told him to stop, but he didn't. "Then get out of my way! Let the brat fight for herself!" He struck out this time at Allen, aiming for a gut punch with his normal hand.

"My job isn't to senselessly murder someone who can't defend them-self!"

Allen finally raised his voice, it almost sounded like someone else. "I'd be no better than they are if I acted like that!"

The thought of that reminded him of what he supposed would become. He gritted his teeth so hard he worried they'd crack. Not gonna happen. He wouldn't lose to the fourteenth. That bastard could claw at him all he wanted but he wouldn't win. He anticipated the gut punch. Lavi might not know it but all of his fights seem to lead with it. He pulled away from the locked blades and dropped to the ground, lashing out with his foot for the unguarded stomach.

It was a good time to start trying to drag herself out from between the fighting boys, Rhode decided- Lavi's foot in her side was not a pleasant sensation, nor would she have enjoyed being stepped on. It was a painful effort, but she pulled herself forward slowly, trying to ignore her vertigo and nausea. After all that, she really didn't want to Allen's heroics to be ruined by some clumsy slip of a sword.

He took the kick, sucking in air and locking his muscles to soften the blow. Taking a step back to balance himself he brought his leg around aiming at Allen's head while the other was closer to the ground.

Then he noticed Rhode trying to crawl away. Moving away from Allen quickly he grabbed Rhode by the back of her shirt and kneed her in the gut. Moyashi be damned.

Allen took the blow and was suddenly very grateful for all the times Cross had hammered him in the head. Lavi's kick couldn't match the raw force of those thundering blows. Still he had to roll on the roof to regain his footing. As fleet footed and trained in combat (mostly self-taught from all the sink or swim moments in his life) he couldn't stop Lavi from going after Road again.

"STOP IT!"

Berserk, that's all he could think of Lavi's reactions. Fables about bulls that charged ceaselessly, came to mind as he reverted his arm and surged after the raging redhead. He dropped down, his foot swept out to knock Lavi off balance. His head was still spinning but he'd fought on in various kinds of pain before this day. It was nothing new. He'd lay down after it was over.

A knee in her stomach was exactly what she needed right now. Rhode felt something crack as all the air left her body, a pain spreading through her chest and torso. The sense of suffocation was terrifying- she grabbed for something to hold in blind panic, catching on Lavi's shirt as she gasped for air. She knew it wasn't anything near a fatal blow, but her body protested loudly, lungs screaming of danger.

And then she was falling, staring at the sky as her chest heaved to try and regain air. Trying to breathe too deeply didn't help, some sharp pain traveling through her side and somehow jumping to her head. She wanted to get up and run, to get out of here, but she couldn't move until she had air.

Breathe, she told herself, trying to force herself to recover quickly. Breathe, breathe, breathe-

Allen's foot indeed knocked him off balance and he fell hard on the gravel floor. Skinning his arm he ignored the stupid sting that came with stupid, harmless wounds and forced himself back up quickly. He was furious and fury was what drove him in those precious few moments.

Ignoring Rhode finally he charged into Allen, grabbing him by his abdomen. Not even bothering with his swords, too mind-boggled and beyond reason to concentrate on controlling the blades, he lifted up his friend and was about ready to throw him to the ground. They were already so close to the railing at this point he didn't realize at first how the rust at the bottom of the poles made them loose and easily removable. So when he was about ready to throw Allen a strange clarity washed over him.

It was one of those stupidly planned epiphanies that one got at the worst moments. His footing was loose and the gravel made him slip. He pushed, rather than threw, Allen away before falling back into the railing and-

fell back.
