Characters: Vergil and Yuna
Location: Holocaust Mall
Rating: PG
Time: Sept 26th, a little before midnight
Description: Despite being at his limit in regards to exhaustion and injury, Vergil persists in remaining at the mall to stand guard and keep watch for more sand constructs. Being the compassionate soul she is, Yuna attempts to talk some sense into him. Things are not quite so simple, however.

It had been hours since the sirens had grown silent and it had more or less been recognized by most within Death City that the invasion was over, but it remained to be seen if every single sand construct had been ousted. Vergil had no intentions of abandoning his post until the matter was utterly certain, which was an attitude that he had carried since the very first attack days previously. With the alarms having ceased and the night arrived, civilians had been growing more insistent about returning to their homes and the Meister had had no choice but to direct those under his and Genesis' command to escort them away in groups.

The most relieving news had been when the Witches' spell had dissolved and people had become unstuck to each other. From a practical standing point, it meant that only one member of the Watch was truly needed to guide each group, thus the mall could be emptied out quickly, before protests could grow too pressing. For the past hour or so Watchmen had been coming and going, but by this time of the night the building had finally been emptied of all its civilians, leaving Vergil and Genesis alone. Each of them had been alternating in patrolling the premises, and at the moment Genesis was elsewhere, likely on another floor.

This suited Vergil fine. As it stood, he was at the very edge of his endurance and total exhaustion was only being forestalled by mere force of will, but more importantly, he had suffered a number of injuries during the fighting throughout the day. To his mind Genesis was partly responsible, for his failing to maintain resonance. Petty emotions did not come into their business, and he had been almost as furious with the Weapon as he was with himself. They hadn't spoken a word since the patrols began, though, and Vergil had been left to his thoughts, which had admittedly proven a dangerous thing.

For the time being, he stood alone and in the shadows just inside the entrance to the mall. With everyone else gone, it had occurred to him that he ought to leave, but he couldn't quite bring himself to move. It wasn't so much the physical exhaustion preventing him from beginning yet another district-wide sweep for constructs, but his own musings that had proven dark and troubling due perhaps in part to his fatigue.
