Date was not amused.

There were not so many things that got Date like this, but this was undeniably one of them. He knew that Dante was hard to please and almost impossible to work along with, but he had hoped that something good would happen once he finally managed to get the other to work with him. Evidently however, that was not to be the case.

The Meister had to do his best not to frown too much when he finally saw Dante coming from around the corner, though it was obvious from the tone of his voice that he was not amused when he spoke as the other finally came by. "About time you showed yourself up."

And Dante simply didn't care about what Date thought. He had been used to doing things his own way for so long that it just didn't register that sometimes it might be better to cooperate with others. The only person he had really worked with was his brother and considering how things had turned out with them, it was understandable that he preferred working alone.

"I'm here now, aren't I?" One day someone was going to try and beat some sense into him, it was only a question of how many tried at once.

To that, the Meister tried his best not to sigh - well, at least Dante was right about something. Though with the way he was taking things, it was obvious that this was going to get him sooner or later... hopefully later of course, but he did hope that the Weapon would let some sense get into his head. At this rate, they could never work well as partners.

"Alright then, let's get to the mission," Date returned as he turned, leading the way towards where they were supposed to go - the shinigami's mirror, and then it was off to... wherever the mission was again.

He walked along with him, not quite behind him, but not exactly beside him either.

Dante had yet to see the benefits of entering a formal partnership with anyone. So there was quite a few barriers towards getting him to partner up. You had to take baby steps with him, as frustrating and painfully slow as it may be.

"So how exactly are we getting there?"

We should prolly glaze over the travelling bit because IDK how it really works myself. OTL getyourgunson October 28 2010, 09:04:21 UTC
"Didn't I say it earlier?" Date returned, until now still having not noted the similarities in their voices - one had to agree, it took a lot for it to be unnoticed for this long of a time and still not notice it. Not that this was very important, anyway. "We're travelling through the shinigami's mirror."

...not that Date knew how to exactly explain it, but Dante seemed more like the learn via action type anyway so that shouldn't pose too much of a problem.

Okay then. TIMESKIPS LIEK A BOSS wittyreplyhere October 28 2010, 09:35:01 UTC
Dante was never the most observant person so if he didn't notice their voices were similar from the beginning, it was likely he would never notice unless someone pointed it out for him.

And Dante experienced travelling through the mirror for himself instead of trying to work out what the hell Date meant. (THIS IS A TIME SKIP. ISN'T IT BEAUTIFUL?)

They appeared in the middle of a field. It was much cooler than it was back in Death City and there was a fairly strong wind about. If Dante was feeling the chill, considering he didn't have a shirt on, he gave no indication of it.

"Hello, New Jersey." He was completely unphased by the fact that they had teleported from Nevada all the way here.

It wasn't the first time that Date had travelled through the mirror of course, but it had been a while since the last time - it was... weird, surely, but the samurai wasn't going to comment on anything. Heck, it was weird that he was here himself when he was supposed to be half a millennium into the past.

The Meister grunted as he glanced around their surroundings, crossing his arms after that. He wasn't wearing his armour nowadays (he learned pretty quickly that most people here hardly wore armour) and was in his more favourable clothes which still had some necessary armour. That all aside, there was another problem that Date had to contend with.

"...do you know this place?" he went with a glance at the Weapon.

He completely misunderstood the question. "Nope, all I know is that this is the state of New Jersey. I thought you were supposed to handle the details, I'm just here for the ride."

So how was this supposed to work? Did they just walk around until a monster jumped out at them or something? Dante also crossed his arms, subconsciously mimicking Date.

Date resisted the urge to sigh - again - when he heard the response and briefly wondered if all of this was going to be worth if to get Dante working with him. In battle there was no problem, but out of it the Weapon was just as exasperating as Sanada Yukimura, if not more.

The Meister ran a hand through his hair in an attempt to cool himself down before he started to walk. "Let's just look around and see what we can find." With any luck, maybe the Kishin would jump out at them instead and they didn't need to try and find it.

It looked like they were winging it. Which suited him just fine, very rarely did he walk into things fully prepared. A dangerous habit and one that he had no intention of fixing. To him, if he was still alive, then it was fine.

"Let's get to it then." It didn't look like there was anything in the immediate area. It seemed like your regular bit of American country side. But of course, looks can be deceiving. It didn't hurt for him to keep on his guard.

Blame Singtel, they've been kind of sucking these days. getyourgunson October 28 2010, 10:42:32 UTC
And so they walked, with Date leading the way although the samurai really had to try not to be too distracted. This place reminded him a little of the last place he had went to (the name eluded him at the moment; it was kind of hard to remember), but there were a few differences here and there that his lone trained eye could make out. Briefly, he wondered what Koujurou would make of all this - his retainer was quite the farmer, and maybe farming in this time might interest him...

Not that I should be thinking about this, the samurai thought to himself with a small scowl as he walked along the path, keeping his senses at alert. He wasn't that all sure about this place, but everything did seem a bit too quiet for his tastes.

Dante noticed it too. It was much too quiet for it to be natural. There should have been people out and about, birds in the sky, animals out in the field. This town should not have looked devoid of life. Their footsteps were the only sound that could be heard.

Did the people all run away or were they about to chance upon the site of their deaths?

It was quiet. Way too quiet. Even for his trained senses that had long since been honed for war and battle, everything was far too quiet. He couldn't sense anyone around at all, nor were there even the faintest hints if life anywhere. It was as if this whole town had been deserted, had been made into nothing but a ghost town.

The Meister sniffed the air as well, but found no scent of blood or rotting flesh. At least that meant that there were no dead people, but this silence... it was unsettling.

"Did the people abandon this town because of the kishin...?" muttered the samurai as he walked, the question more to himself rather than Dante. Nothing about this felt right at all, and Date was having a bad feeling about this for some reason...

Mine looks so boring in comparison. Also if the place is deserted can they theoretically go looting? wittyreplyhere October 30 2010, 08:53:44 UTC
"Looks like it." He hadn't exactly noticed that the question wasn't directed at him.

There. Dante turned as a brief flicker at the corner of his eyes caught his attention. He couldn't see anything, but now he knew that there was definitely something out there. It looked like it was pretty damn fast too.

"Playing hard to get, huh?" Dante bent down a little and clapped his hands. "Come on, here boy!"

No, they will not go looting. Also why am I imagining this like a HotD boss or something... getyourgunson October 30 2010, 09:48:51 UTC
Despite the misunderstanding, the response was appreciated nonetheless. Date made a soft grunt, glancing around still. The grass around here did seem to be oddly tall, now that he thought about it; the earth itself was kind of soft too - not to mention a little muddy. Had it been raining here recently as well?

Dante's taunt brought him out of his thoughts, and the Meister turned around to look at his partner. He was just about to open his mouth to speak when the ground suddenly shook, and Date barely managed to stifle the surprised yelp that almost escaped him while he stumbled back from the force of that shake. What the heck was that?

FINE HE'LL GET A GUN THE LEGIT WAY (which will take at least 2 missions, license then gun). ZOMBIES! wittyreplyhere October 30 2010, 10:18:51 UTC
Dante was barely phased by that, in fact, he looked rather pleased about the new developments. The Weapon straightened up, grinning. "You're a big boy, aren't you?"

This cocky demeanour was maintained for a grand total of 5 seconds before he was forced to jump out of the way when something briefly erupted out from the ground beneath him. It disappeared back under the earth as quickly as it had appeared.

He whistled. At least they now had some idea of what they were up against. As much as he didn't like having to transform into his own sword, he understood that it was necessary. He needed to get over to Date, kick some ass, then go back and get paid. It was easier said than done, the monster seemed to understand that it was in it's best interest to keep the two apart, forcing them to move apart.
