They finally arrive at the end of the tour to what looked like a large apartment. There are three women waiting for them there, two younger girls who look like they might be twins, and an older one with an eyepatch. The taller of the two twins steps forward to greet the group ( ... )

It had been... A long day, and that was a serious understatement. Waking up in alternate dimensions when just yesterday you'd been living a normal life with your friends wasn't the kind of surprise Shirley really wanted. To top it off, the people in this place seemed a little off, and that was an understatement. Honestly, one of them was blue. This person seemed slightly more normal than the rest, however, so when she was done talking, Shirley felt more comfortable asking a question.

"Um, why are all the names of the buildings so morbid?" She asked, hoping it didn't make her seem odd. If this wasn't a dream (which she still suspected it may be, even if it was unusually vivid) the death motifs here sure didn't make it any easier to feel more at home.

Liz perked a bit when Shirley asked a question. Everyone had seemed unusually quiet so she was glad for the break. In this case Liz could actually sympathize a little with Shirley. She may be a person able to transform into a demon gun who absorbed souls but for all of that Liz had an almost unnatural fear of the occult. Granted she was use to Shinigami and Death City by this point, but when she had first come here? She had wondered the exact same thing.

"That is mostly due to the fact that this city was created by currently reigning Shinigami's father. He started the gimmick and it just sort of grew from there." Jeez what a first impression they must make to people, but there was no way it would ever change. The people residents were not bothered by it, and Liz doubted very much that Kid would ever stray from his father's dream.

Well, not too much anyway.

"But in the end that is all it is--a gimmick. You don't need to worry too much about the residents."

"So it's kind of like a running joke?" She asked, tilting her head a little. Well, if that was true, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing... Still, if she was injured, the last place she'd want to go was a place called a 'Horrorspital'. For the most part, she believed Liz when she said she didn't need to worry - most of the people in the crowd that she had seen didn't seem that bad, even though some of the people showing them around were... Questionable.

Liz looked a little sheepish but she nodded. "Yea, that's the just of it, and that's pretty much how it is everywhere in Death City. Even the guests who have established their own businesses here have continued the trend. I mean, I think everywhere might be an exaggeration. There are a couple restaurants that don't but they tend to be the really expensive ones, like Dorsia."

It had been surprising enough to suddenly find himself in a whole new place all of a sudden and only the strangest of explanations to go along with it, but after having spent years with surprises happing around him seemingly every five seconds for a good portion of his life, Phoenix found himself not as shocked as he thought he would be. He supposed that came with the age - being thirty-three now, he was quite used to whatever life had to throw at him, though he had to admit this was quote a bit over the top.

Nevertheless, he was stuck here (apparently), and he had heard something about free lodgings which got a bit of his interest. Call him cheap, but free lodgings was a very good thing, considering how high his last rent was. One would have thought that they would give people like him a discount as well ( ... )

Out of the way, hussy. willyoumarieme September 19 2010, 12:51:48 UTC
Admittedly, Marie hadn't been paying the most attention to the tour; even though it was her first time accompanying the 'guests,' she felt her responsibilities lay primarily in keeping Patti on task. That, of course, changed when scruffy hunk in the beanie spoke. With all the grace of an enraged elephant, Marie sidestepped and nudged Liz out of the way so as to intercept the question.

"Of course you do!" She didn't miss a beat. Marie gave her best smile, and leaned in closer than was necessary. "It's our way of apologizing for the inconvenience of having been brought here so suddenly. There's even a free grocery down at the mall... I could show you where later. I'm free after the tour..."

Hey what now Phoenix is... well okay he's not a married man, but. thirteenthace September 19 2010, 12:57:06 UTC
Phoenix had seen all of that of course, but being the man he was opted not to make a comment about it - new world or not, some things just seemed to stay the same, he thought to himself with an internal chuckle.

"Oh, really?" he went, smiling still and generally pretty much maintaining his cool despite the situation. "I suppose having a personal tour guide to bring me around won't be all that bad." A pause and a blink, and then he added on almost as an afterthought. "You're not charging for service now, are you?" Because he was pretty penniless right about now, what with the currency thing and all.

"Oh, not at all!" Marie reassured, covering her mouth with the back of a hand to mask the nervous laugh. [Ohohoho...] "I just know how difficult a new situation can be, how difficult it is to face it on your own..." Like being twenty-eight and unmarried. Like having taken an easy posting in Oceania to have time to date and coming back without so much as an engagement. She glanced down at his hands... No ring! Score!

"I'm free all evening, actually, so we can go anywhere you like!"

An amused look crossed Phoenix's face at that - he knew he really shouldn't, but this was a good chance to know about this place better; or at least to know it enough so that he could avoid all the Unnecessary Things than came with being here. The man had no intention of troubling himself with whatever 'war' that was taking place here now, thank you very much.

"Then I'll take you up on that offer, if you don't mind," came the response, smile still in place as Phoenix tucked his hands into the pockets of his hoodie. "And you can decide where to take me then - you're the one familiar with this place after all."

I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHO THE REAL HUSSY IS jacking hope that is okay >3> thesmallergun September 19 2010, 13:29:53 UTC
Oh wow! Once again Liz was being reminded of the benefits of being one of the people to great the new guests. She hadn't seen someone quite like this guy in a very long while, not since she herself was a person of the streets, and then she'd been a little too out of the loop to really notice any fellow street rats other than her sister.

She was opening her mouth to answer the question when she was pushed aside by Marie.

Did she really just do that? And there was no denying that look in her eyes. With spite now fueling her eagerness as well she too gave Marie a little shove.

"And if you ever want to go inside Shinigami's mansion and speak with him, I can certainly help arrange that for you and show you around there. Not many people have that privilege" Why yes Marie, that was a jab at you.

"Okay!" She mulled over the possibilities. There was that new restaurant in town, 'Northern Lights,' but who wanted to eat Canadian food? She didn't even know what Canadian food was, but the image evoked was one of lumberjacks, flannel, and pancakes. Not the romantic tablecloth and wine setting she was looking for. There were also a few movies at the Corpse Bros' Cineplex that she hadn't seen more than five times yet. The real question was dinner first then movie, or movie first then dinner?

"Liz already mentioned it, but I'm Marie Mjölnir." She blushed delicately deliberately. "You can just call me---"

Being shoved out of the way was not pleasant, not when she was in the middle of her very personable and enticing self-introduction. The icebreaker. The invitation for the man to go, 'What a beautiful name you have, Marie. You can just call me Tom.' Or Tony. Or whatever his first name was. It was a sacred exchange of names that had just been ruined!

Homewrecker! Hussy! Marie crackled, just a little, the little arcs of lightning dancing between her fingers. Hidden, of course. Right now she was a flower, a vulnerable woman being taken advantage of by a man-thieving student that had hit puberty too soon.

"And I can show you to Shinigami's private office, which is much nicer than his mansion. Underaged students definitely don't have that privilege."

NO NOT THAT KIND OF GOOD and yes jacking is totally a-okay with me. :D thirteenthace September 19 2010, 14:13:19 UTC
Phoenix blinked, again, as the battle seemed to heat up once more, doing his best not to break out into a laugh at the sight. Man oh man, he had seemed to pick up quite the trouble, hadn't he...? Well, nothing he could do about it though - all he wanted was to ask about the free rent and got so much more instead. Not that he was really complaining, of course - the more he knew about all of this, the easier he could dodge the oncoming things that seemed to loved racing towards him (the fact that Apollo wasn't here didn't help with this too).

Taking another moment to adjust his beanie (it was slipping a little), the man smiled at both ladies, hands still in his hoodie while he replied. "If I ever find the need to do that-" Which I think I never well, anyway, "-I'll be sure to contact the both of you. In the meantime-" He stopped again, giving a small casual shrug and then introduced himself. "Since we're having such a nice conversation, might as well introduce ourselves. My name's Phoenix Wright. A pleasure to meet both of you."

Liz was about to toss back a snarky comment to that when their guest spoke and she turned her full attention to him. What a gentleman despite his rough looks, that made Liz like him even more and she gave him a brilliant smile, for the moment completely ignoring Marie.

"The pleasure is all mine, did you have any other questions?"

Marie smiled in return to the greeting, now completely ignoring Liz. That date after the tour was still hers, after all. So he didn't do it the way he was supposed to, the way they did it in the movies, but she could forgive him. Especially with those manners!

There could be no forgiveness for Liz, though...

"Yes, do you have any other concerns, Phoenix? Anything at all, and I'll be delighted to help."
