[KISHIN CHAMBER] daddyscythe September 18 2010, 14:41:42 UTC
Despite his reservations about the entire thing, Spirit was nevertheless full of energy and cheer as the door to the Kishin Chamber opened and the new guests streamed out, confused as always and hopefully not too violent. At first glance, nothing really set Spirit from everyone else apart from his bright red hair -- after all, on his left was a blue zombie that appeared very much dead, and on his right was a particularly short boy with strange, striped hair.

Spirit stepped forward, then, all cool and collected. Until he spoke, anyway.

“Hi!” he chirped, grinning widely at all of them. If he was nervous, he hid it well! “Welcome to Death City. First, let me give you your communicators. It’ll allow you to contact all the other guests here like you -- hey, maybe there’s someone here you know! -- and it has all these other nifty functions that you can read on later in the manual.” He gestured at Sid, the zombie, and Kid, the kid. “Please follow us as we give a tour of the place, which will end at the Communal, where you will live for the ( ... )

The red-haired man appeared friendly enough. The young boy seemed younger than Noa, but he carried himself with severe authority. The last man, though... Noa had never seen anyone like him before. If he didn't look imposing already with his stature and muscled build, his skin was colored a blue tint. He looked more dead than alive.

Noa opened the communicator and ran his fingers across its buttons before he and his fellow newcomers were instructed to follow the trio around the city. He pocketed his communicator and took his time falling in line. He glanced at his surroundings through heavy, narrowed eyes. This city was involved in a war, but it looked nothing like the shambles he last saw of Neotopia. Perhaps the city hadn't suffered as much destruction during the fighting. "So this is the city Lord Shinigami wants us to protect," Noa said to himself in a soft voice.

Spirit at that moment had been ushering everyone down the corridor. This usually took longer than expected, because people were often very confused, distraught, or very, very angry. So it was with some surprise that Spirit regarded the boy near him when he spoke, unused to people being this calm about things.

"It is, it is," he answered with a friendly smile. "It might take a while to get used to, especially if you're not used to the desert, but it's a pretty nice city."

Spirit would be mistaking Noa's calm for pensive contemplation. There was so much to take in when he first arrived, and there was still more about living in Death City to learn on this tour. His mind drifted between this world and the one he was taken from, and then he would remember--

"Ye-yes, it is," he replied to the man, trying to hide his surprise. He hadn't realized he had voiced his thoughts. "Where are we going first, sir?" he asked. At the moment, he was confused about how he felt about being here, but he figured he should learn what he could about the city, its culture, and its war.

"First is a tour around the school," he said with a short nod, very pleased at how cooperative this kid was. "We'll show you around the school premises and explain how it works. And then it'll be through the city until we get to your residences."

It was a short tour, really. Barely took an hour, although given the weather today, they might want to be faster with it.

"I see," he said. "It's been a while since I went to school. I hope I haven't fallen behind too much." The last time he attended was before he was pulled away from his hometown of Calm. After what he let happen to Neotopia, Noa wasn't sure he was ready or qualified to fight, but he had experience in helping maintain order at his school. Perhaps he could contribute to that realm of matters. "Is there a student council in the school? I'd like to join and help in any way I can."

"Oh, our classes for the guests are drawn up to make sure you all learn about this world!" Spirit said cheerfully.

"But... a student council?" Did they have one? Well, there was one for the normal Shibusen students, but they took different classes from the guests, too... "We have several groups among the guests with that function, I guess. As for the student bodies, I'll have to see if they're accepting new people."

"So it's not limited to school-aged children. It helps the guests to acclimate to their situation as well." He looked up to the side in thought. "Our arrival must be a serious issue if you had to go to such lengths to accommodate us." This wasn't the first time he was whisked away to a new world, but it was the first time for him to land in one that seemed to act as a sort of nexus between all of them. An eclectic group of people stood with him before the three native men, some wearing feudel garb straight out of a history textbook and others in more colorful outfits that made him wonder when they were in style.

"I didn't meant to impose," he said. His voice softened, and the delivery behind his words slowed down. "You probably hear this a lot, but I'm not sure if I can fight. I was student government president at my former school, so I thought maybe I could be of some use in that area."

"Not at all," Spirit answered promptly, before giving him a crooked smile. "Let's just say that a few hundred people arrived here before you did because of the BREW. We weren't going to let you all sleep in the streets or walk around without any idea where you were!"

Spirit was also sorta getting used to the strange ways these people dressed. Although Spirit hoped this one found decent clothing soon. The desert was quite hot.

At the last statement, though, Spirit only nodded. "You don't have to fight if you don't want to. It might help if you did, but it's not a requirement. We'll still keep you here and protect and provide for you."

"A few hundred?" he repeated. "How long have you been receiving people from other worlds?" Since Noa didn't have the opportunity to browse the network with his new communicator and was only taking the tour around the city now, he didn't see how many people inhabited the city. Of course, numbers often proved to be an advantage in a war. It was logical BREW would recruit as many people as it could to fight.

Noa lowered his head. His lips curled into a small smile. "You're all very kind. If not on the battlefield, then I'll find another way to assist you in your cause."

Spirit considered counting it by month, but lost count some time around the second month. “The first batch came on the first of June,” he finally said instead. “It’s September 9 now, so a little over three months? The first batches were pretty small… but it seems to be getting bigger and bigger as time passes by. I do wonder if it means that bad things are going to happen!” Spirit hoped not.

His pleasure at the boy’s words was obvious. Spirit clapped him on the shoulders with his brightest smile. “That’s really nice of you! Then I look forward to your help!”

"I hope not," Noa said, "but in case it does, at least now you have more people by your side. And he would be as well, even if it wouldn't be in a battle field. BREW took him here for a reason, just like Lady Diana had shifted him to Neotopia. Give him time, and he would figure out what that could be.

Noa's shoulders hitched in reaction to Spirit's emotional gesture. He looked at the man before smiling wryly. "Thank you."

What a kind boy. Spirit liked him already. He was the type to help others no matter what, because he was Spirit and he was wholeheartedly, completely, devoutly wholesome. But it was rare to see that sort of thing in other people, and it warmed his heart.

"Now, then! Let's continue on with the rest of the tour!" he said with a grin, ushering the boy to the rest of the crowd.

The young woman stares at the communicator that had been handed to her--and to her credit, Sid, she doesn't even spare you a second glance. When you've been dealing with the dead a lot, a zombie doesn't really surprise you.

Plus, Sid's a fairly clean-looking zombie; there's no blood or anything, and in all he's deemed Interesting but not Terrifying Take Picture Now.

A kid, a zombie and a man. Rei took a deep breath and glanced around, sizing everything up, before slipping a hand into her pocket.

Oh good, her notebook was still in there. Pulling it out she flipped to an empty page and made a few notes, before looking to them again. "Excuse me, this place... It's real? This isn't a dream?"

Convenient for her that she doesn't seem fazed by Sid, since he's the one who steps forward to answer her. (Another guest with a note pad! The last person who turned up taking notes a few weeks ago is proving to have a good head on his shoulders, so lets hope this indicates a trend.) He can't really smile at her since he doesn't have proper lips, but his tone is confident and assuring nonetheless.

"Yes! It is as real as you are. Though we have been told by several of our guests in the past that it's different enough that they have trouble believing it at first!"

She looked to the man, quietly taking this in...and makes another note in her notebook.

Rei's handling this pretty well--if only because she's kind of used to waking up in strange places like this. Maybe this is what really happened when the curse came to an end. She can't help but smile a little at that. Yeah, right; nice thought but that's all it was.

She looks to him again, "You're...dead?" Might as well get straight to the point.
