He took a sip from the odd little paper cup of coffee he'd ended up getting at Deathbucks before coming to take his place here among all the cookies. He knew he'd need that coffee to get through the day. His night had been very long, and filled with sugar and flour and cookie cutters and Ahiru.
He'd thought she was crazy for wanting to do something like this, and the more he considered it, the more he felt he was right. This was ridiculous. He wasn't sure how many cookies they'd made, anymore, but there were hundreds. And they were all made for the sole purpose of giving to whatever random people wanted to take them.
Well, fine. As long as people did come to take them. Fakir sure as hell didn't want hundreds of cookies to take home. He didn't want any.
Glancing up at Ahiru as she sat down next to him, he raised an eyebrow at the cheerful demeanor that was still quite firmly in place on her face. "Why aren't you like this for morning training?"

"That's too early. And besides, making people happy is more fun than concentrating really hard on something I don't really understand."
She looked at the coffee cup in front of Fakir and made a face. "...I dunno how you can drink that stuff. Eugh."
Turning to the side, she pulled up a third chair - that would be for Colette when she showed up to help pass out cookies.

He had gotten a short nap in while Ahiru, in her boundless energy, was off at the store getting boxes and a cart, but after the night that had preceded it, it wasn't nearly enough. Objectively, Fakir knew he would eventually recover from the cookie-making marathon, but it didn't feel like it at the moment.
Not bothered by Ahiru's disapproval, Fakir took another sip of his coffee. "There's nothing wrong with it."

Fakir definitely didn't look well-rested, by any means. But now that all the cookies were set up and ready to be distributed, she didn't know why he decided to stay down here. If he was worried she was going to drop things, that part was over with.
Lifting back up from the table, she made another small disgusted face at the coffee before turning her gaze back on Fakir's face. "You could go rest now, if you want to. We got everything down here and you helped a lot. I know you don't like being around crowds and stuff. I can take it from here."

Her suggestion made him blink when he leaned back to look--not very far--up at her. "I said I would be fine. Don't worry about it."
It wasn't that he was eager to sit in the middle of a bunch of sugary junk and see all the people come through. He definitely wasn't a fan of the idea of interacting with all those people, either. But he didn't like the idea of leaving Ahiru in a place where everyone in Death City would know to find her.
So he would stick around, just to keep an eye on things.

"I'll be fine!" she assured with a fist pump into the air, exerting more energy than she actually felt she had at the moment. But she didn't want to worry him. Just like he apparently didn't want to worry her.
For now, she decided not to try to push him. If it was one thing the two of them had in common, it was their stubbornness. And she wouldn't put it past him to argue the whole way without relenting if she kept bugging him about it. So she shrugged lightly, her lips settling into a frown.
"Okay, but if you need a nap or something, I'm sure we'll clean space enough on the table soon that you can take one here." She smiled teasingly as she gestured to the area in front of him. Ahiru doubted that Fakir would ever let himself fall asleep in public, but the thought was still amusing.
She seen him napping once or twice, now that they shared a living space. And she swore it was the only time he actually looked peaceful.

He scowled at her suggestion. "I don't need to do anything like that." He wouldn't shut his eyes for a minute while he was out here, and he definitely wouldn't do anything as ridiculous as that.
Fakir was a very private person, to say the least. Sleeping certainly wasn't something he would do where just anyone could see him. He guessed Ahiru must have known when he was asleep, as they lived together, but he didn't dwell on that. It couldn't be helped anyway, and he wasn't sure if the odd feeling he got when he thought about it was discomfort or not.

Knowing him, he'd probably just repeat the same 'don't worry about it, moron' line again and again. And the truth of it was probably something like he expected her to somehow break one of the tables and spill cookies everywhere and make a huge mess. Yeah, that sounded about right.
"I know, I know. I didn't really think you'd take a nap out here." He seemed to think they were going to get ambushed by everyone he distrusted. She rolled her eyes at the thought.
The chairs definitely weren't comfortable, but the more Ahiru sat there doing nothing, the more her eyes felt like closing. Slowly... slowly.. heavy...
Getting a hold of herself, she abruptly stood, picking the device up from the table that she brought over with her and turning to Fakir. "Do you think we should post something to let everyone know we're down here?"
Reply
"I've already made a post about these sweets," he remarked. "But do it if you want to." She probably would, regardless.

Whoops. Maybe she ought to be checking the network a bit more often, then. She chuckled sheepishly, sitting back down and setting the SC on the table where it was before. "I guess we don't need two of them, then."
Which meant... back to waiting. And back to trying not to feel sleepy.

"People said they would come. So just be patient."
Though he said that, Fakir couldn't help but think about how irritated he'd be if nobody showed up to take all those stupid sweets. What were they going to do if they got stuck with them? He could imagine Ahiru getting herself sick on them.

But she needed to keep doing something. If she fell asleep here before passing cookies out, she'd probably never hear the end of it from Fakir. And he'd probably rub it in as another reason for why he couldn't leave and get some sleep, himself.
That, and, she did want to meet new people, too! So...
Her hand darted out and grabbed a chocolate chip cookie. Slowly, she started to nibble on it. Eating would definitely keep her awake.
"These turned out really good."

As long as she didn't just start cramming them in, he decided it wasn't a problem.
"Not salty, at least."
Reply
"Nope! They're nice and sugary and chocolate-y!"
Glancing down at the pile for a moment, she turned to Fakir and pointed down to the mass in front of them. "You sure you don't wanna try one?"
Reply
Even if they had chocolate, Fakir just didn't find sweet things appealing. Hearing about how sugary they were didn't encourage him any.
