It was a bad day. It was a bad week, moving onto a bad month.

Immediately after the battle, Kida had actually been feeling pretty good, in his heart, at least. His body had been pretty beat up and he was still getting dizzy spells from the bloodloss even now. But still, the battle had been won, and he'd come back from it to find that Mikado wasn't in town any more, and for a little while Kida had seen a light at the end of the tunnel.

Now Mikado was back, with Anri no less, and he didn't believe either were going to listen to him when he told them to stay out of it.

Lying in the clinic again had left him thinking too much and moving too little, so he'd snuck out again as the evening fell and prowled the streets. He hadn't had any particular destination or intent in mind until he passed by a flower store with the windows broken out from the battle, and remembered a promise to an adorable girl that cheered him up.

He stole a bouquet of daisies that were still more perky than not, despite the bad air, and decided to come back and pay for them later.

Which is how he ended up with a cheerful smile plastered on his face, flowers in one hand, and knocking at Minatsuki-chan's door.

She opened the door all the way, faking a rather realistic smile as she realized who the boy on the other side of the door was, and that he didn't seem as hurt as he had been when she last saw him on the SC. Honestly, she wished he was even more hurt; she also wished she had been the one to do it.

"Kida! Oh, they're beautiful..." she said, reaching out and taking the flowers while she backed away from the door. "Come in! You really didn't have to..."

"I promised, didn't I?"

Kida followed her in with a wide grin. It was easy to appear happy around cute girls, no wonder he loved them all so much!

"Sorry it's a little late. But when I realized what a lousy few days it's been I thought Mina-chan's heart might lift if she had a few flowers."

"They're lovely..." She commented, looking for a vase, or even a glass to put them in.

"You can sit down, if you like! Stay awhile..." She said, turning towards him for a minute as she looked around.

Rather than taking a chair, Kida hops up on the counter of her kitchen to watch her scavenger for a vase.

"So how has the lovely Mina-chan been? You came through your first battle unscratched, right?"

"Mm, I was tired, and I had a few cuts and scrapes, but I'm lucky compared to some people..." She said, obviously making an effort not to look at him now as her eyes narrow a bit, saddened.

"I'm sorry you got hurt."

Kida's smile disappeared at hearing she was hurt at all. He wasn't sure on the details of how weapon transformation worked, but apparently even small wounds could happen, and that meant bigger ones could too.

"...how was Shal?"

Shal was cheerful enough, and surprisingly built, so maybe he was a lot more dangerous than he seemed. But chances were kid he'd just taken the chance to partner up with a pretty girl. Kida didn't really like the idea of leaving Minatsuki in the hands of someone who was pretty much a stranger.

"He was very capable! I'm lucky to have a partner like him..." She said, perking up a little bit, as most people would when they thought of someone they were fond of. Meanwhile, she located a large glass, and although it wasn't a vase... It would have to work. She moved to the sink and filled it up with water before dropping the flowers in delicately.

"Eeh?"

Kida tried to sound relieved.

"I guess he's not an ordinary guy after all. I'm glad to know Mina-chan's ended up in safe hands."

She has to stop herself from visibly twitching - it's fine, it's fine, it's fine. She can keep it under control, she can keep up the facade...

"I'm sure I'd manage to take care of myself even if I wasn't in anyone's hands..." She answered, setting the flowers down and sitting next to him on the counter.

Kida blinks, catching a slight stiffening, and the word selection in her reply, and wonders if he'd actually offended her. He replies with an easy smile.

"Of course Mina-chan has made it through even a difficult life. But can you blame me for worrying about her getting hurt? Even the really powerful types are at risk here."

He sighs and leans back on his hands, looking up at her ceiling.

"Maybe we can work together next time there's a battle? Spirit-san might agree to it."

No. No. No. He didn't know anything about her life and he didn't know anything about her, even, and she didn't want to work with him, she already had a stupid fucking partner and Kida had already tried to resonate with her and it hadn't worked. God, she was sick of everyone in this town being such a fucking idiot, she just wanted to back home where she could hurt whoever she pleased and nobody would give a fuck-

"No! Fuck you!" She screamed, standing up on the counter without even thinking about what she was doing, and launching a kick at the boy's head.

"Mina--"

Is as far as Kida gets before her foot connects with his forehead, sending him sliding back off the counter and tumbling down onto the floor at the end.

And stays there, lifting a hand to touch his eye (which was already feeling sore and would be swelling in no time) and wondering what the hell had just happened.

His face cracks into a confused, hurt smile. "What the hell...?" The pain of being kicked in the face by Mina-chan is negligible, he'd taken pipes and boards to his face before. But the pain of Mina-chan attacking him at all...

There had to be some sort of crazy manga scenario answer to this. Possessed? Doppleganger? MPD? No way his cute Mina-chan had just kicked him off her kitchen counter.

And then she's off the counter; her face is more harsh than anyone in Death City has ever seen it before, and she looks angry. Angry, angry, angry, because she hates this city, and right now, more than anything, she hates this boy and everything about him. She steps next to him, aiming a kick at his ribs now - if he doesn't move, she'll be doing it again and again.

"What the fuck are you smiling for? Asshole, you... Fucker! Stop it!" She yelled, one of her hands shifting into an edge of her weapon form.
