Kaworu had been taking his habitual morning walk when it first began - the skies turning dark and frogs falling like endless, dangerous and heavy rain. It was almost like the plagues of old, observed by and documented in the holy book. The frantic announcements from his communicator, though muffled by his pants, verified that it was happening everywhere in the city. A witch attack, following the written word. It was almost funny.
The size and the teeth were a nice touch, though.
He reached up to undo the sling that kept his arm safe and stationary and stuffed it into his pocket. Healing can wait; there were people that needed help. He watched as his right arm changed into a blade, sharp and unmistakably similar to his Eva. The manifestation of his will and resolution and the reason why he could never resonate with any weapon.
He gutted the frogs approaching his body and pondered his next course of action. Where to?
Sohki had gone out to the streets to attempt feeling the air around the city as the others departed. It had been a rather interesting affair, and after the entire ordeal was over and done with, the kirin had taken the scenic route back to the communal building. That was when it had happened as he sensed the shift in the air moments before the heavens above broke open and began raining frogs down on him.
He'd managed to miss the first few attacks, but without his powers, the kirin was all but blind to the world around him in this type of situation. The scent on the air was confusing his senses, and with the chaos exploding all around him, Sohki couldn't find enough balance to fully grasp what was happening.
The confusion left him stumbling out of the alleyway as the kirin stumbled down to his knee. He managed to catch himself on his hand moments before Sohki jumped out to the side to dodge the incoming attack of his unknown enemy.
Kaworu heard the steps of another person first and ran off in that direction. The grinding pain in his chest was negligible like most other things. At least by now he wasn't going to kill himself by just moving around. The Shibusen healers were considerably notable.
The frogs were attacking another man, older than he it seemed, who was already down. The angel put on a burst of speed before he speared two frogs in one move and threw them off before they exploded.
Sohki's attention was instantly taken by the new scent on the air. It wasn't until the words were called out to him that the kirin realised that it was yet another citizen in the city. He didn't care if it was a temporary one or not, the kirin couldn't allow for them to be pulled into any danger.
"I am not injured," The kirin called back as he righted his balance. Despite the situation, his movements remained graceful. "How many creatures are surrounding us?" He asked despite his dull blue eyes opening.
"A dozen," he said almost cheerfully though his eyes were narrowed with gravity. He put his back to the fellow guest and stared down the monster frogs. "Or more."
He glanced back to look at the man, starting once to find that his eyes were dull, almost filmy. Blind? "Can you fight?"
The tone would have had Sohki glancing back to the other, but the kirin was a little too preoccupied with the possible threat all around them. "Hmm uninvited guests are always troublesome," Sohki murmured back with a subtle chuckle highlighting his tone.
"Usually such things would not be a bother, but I'm afraid I'm a little hard of seeing in this city," The kirin admitted. He knew that he couldn't fight, not in these conditions, and Sohki just hoped that the dear Count wasn't in any peril. "You would be best to find an exit and leave me be. I will only be a hindrance to your safety."
He couldn't see the attention the other was giving him, but just before he closed his eyes, Sohki sighted another enemy beginning to home in on their position. Tensing his muscles, the kirin relied on the scent on the air to judge when he needed to move. It wasn't as effective as his usual technique, but it will have to do.
"They never let you prepare for their arrival," he agreed with a put-upon sigh, eyes moving from one side of the mob to the other. "You must be really popular among social circles."
He glanced at his weapon-arm and and watched it glint red for a moment. "That's alright. I can protect the both of us. Are you headed anywhere in particular?"
He stabbed the one attacking as well, and jumped into the fray as he waited for his answer.
Sohki's lips quirked up into an amused smile despite their situation. While he didn't allow for himself to get too distracted, the kirin could appreciate such a sense of humour in the face of such danger. It reminded him far too much of himself, and he could only imagine how much Naga and the other guardians would appreciate that~
"I've been known to hold quite the party in my time," The kirin cheerfully said, but found himself quickly on the move as a large fanged-frog leapt in.
He wasn't fast enough as he dodged to the side, and felt pain explode in his arm where the creature had attacked moments before the strong scent of blood hit his senses. Reaching up to grab at the wound, Sohki's voice remained easy going as he said, "I was attempting to return to the communal before these creatures appeared."
"Don't you usually invite people to tea?" He pondered, though his eyes narrowed in irritation. He was too slow, dallying too much in conversation and humor.
That wasn't the only thing to him, though. Kaworu growled and activated one of his skills - a strong shield that repelled most of the frogs around them.
"Then we'll get there," he reassured the other man as he took him by the arm and began to run in the direction of the communal.
"Not usually, no. Arriving here has been the first time in a number of centuries that I've remained in one place," Sohki said as he dodged out of the way of yet another attack.
Clutching at the wound on his arm, Sohki peered over with nearly-useless eyes as the other grabbed a hold of him. "You've no need to go out of your way if you've somewhere more important," The kirin said even as he was dragged along behind the other.
"I always see you in the internet!" He said, lifting his arm and called for the barrier again. These monsters were really persistent.
His chest hurt, almost burning in pain. But it had been worse before and this was something that he could overcome if he stopped thinking about it too much. Right. Got to work on that. "If I didn't know any better," he began, killing a few more frogs. "I'd say you don't want me around."
He had been on the network quite often since his arrival - that he wouldn't disagree on. Yet the thought drew out an amused chuckle as the kirin said, "Boredom does wonders to some people, it seems."
There was no doubt that there was thankful for having a good pair of eyes to help him, but compared to some others he'd seen around here, he was hardly one any should be concerned about. "I'm quite grateful for the assistance, especially given my situation, but if we continue with this dance then I'll have no choice but to invite you over for tea to show my gratitude," Sohki murmured before he caught the scent of something on the air. Pulling himself to an abrupt halt, the kirin moved to yank hard on his unexpected companion moments before one of the large-fanged frogs dropped down in front of them.
"I don't have anything against tea," he said conversationally. "You can also not invite me. It's your decision."
The abrupt halt made everything hurt more, but it was certainly a lot better than being hurt by more frogs from the sky. If he was terribly unlucky, they might even catch his good arm and maybe his legs as well. He didn't think that the clinic would like to see him again, after the last time.
Those frogs were quickly eliminated with a few slashes of his arm. He needed to bring this man to safety and quickly.
"Quite true, but if nothing else, I do hold respect and politeness in high esteem," Sohki said. It wasn't as though he was against having this one over for tea, and perhaps he actually would if they managed to survive through this
( ... )
He only heard the commotion and the attack far too late to save the other guest from maiming but Kaworu did try. He turned back and ran for the mobbing. He kills a few more frogs along the way before he sees that the other man had changed forms to protect himself.
It proved quite a bit of his theory correct, but now wasn't the time to ponder it. He reached down and grabbed the elegant weapon by the hilt with his dominant and uninjured arm and used it to cleave through the other frogs that wanted to take advantage of their distraction.
"Are you alright?" He asked, feeling nauseous once more, though it passed as well. The feeling of sludge against his soul was probably a standard; he ought to expect it more often. "I'm sorry. I went too far."
