The fingers of his right hand loosened and the tension in bruised fists was released as steadily as his exhale. Not for the first time since the sun had come up, Naruto felt ready to throw his arms up in frustration and scrap the whole thing. This really was a bad idea- a bad idea even by his standards, but-
Without so much as a glance at the tree that had been doing a commendable job as his sparring partner, Naruto let the fight fall out of him. One hand lifted to rub at the sweat beading at his temple, and the by now familiar discomfort was churning in his stomach. Yeah yeah, alright it was a bad idea and it probably wouldn't work. Hell he hadn't even been able to pick Sasuke up when he'd turned into that ribbon-whatever, and that Shibusen lady had gone on and on about chemistry and resonating and stuff. -But he had to do something. His shoulders sagged, eyes closed and weight leaning back against the battered trunk as his breath caught up with him. Alright, so it wouldn't be the first time Naruto set his mind

Itachi rounded another corner and found himself staring at his new partner, who was in turn staring at a tree. Lovely. It figures, he'd probably been here since sunrise. Holding in a sigh, he made his way silently forward, the doubt growing heavier with every step he took.
Was this even worth it? Did Sasuke still need him?
Naruto's hands lifted, fingers tangling in blond hair in no less than frustrated exasperation and after the relatively disgruntled groan was out of his system he did feel marginally better. Marginally.
At least, until his arms dropped and a half turn left him more or less face to face with his partner. "H- Hey!" A shout and one reflexive step backwards before he made an attempt to recover. Maybe he hadn't been lying. Maybe the Uchiha really was dead and maybe he wasn't trying to capture Naruto anymore- but that didn't mean he was exactly comfortable around the guy. A heartbeat later and he regained the step he'd lost, purposefully closing the distance between them. "Don't just sneak up on people like that'ttebayo!"
Itachi almost smiled. Almost. He knew that Naruto was younger than the last time he had spoken to him before his death, but it still surprised him every time. Of course, he wasn't much different-- still as brash and emotional as always.
"Perhaps you should pay more attention to your surroundings."
Not for the first time since he'd arrived, he found himself mourning the loss of his sharingan. Naruto had always been much easier to deal with when he had the upper-hand. Not that he didn't have it now, but it wasn't the same.
