aww, he had it comin'. just like that song from Chicago! ornithophobia June 24 2010, 05:32:34 UTC
The sudden motion -- though it felt as if the very joints of his wrist were tearing apart -- did give him some absurd hope that maybe his hand would be freed, and then he'd be free to show him fear a hundred, a thousand times worse than he'd just experienced and put out that rage like a candle. It was a hope that lasted only a split second because he suddenly had another new pain to contend with.

The punch caught him extremely unawares. Understandable, considering his full attention was focused on the agonising ripping sensation in his wrist. The blow quite literally bowled him over on his back, landing hard on the paved street. All the wind left his lungs and seemingly wasn't coming back any time soon -- he struggled for air while his good hand debated over whether to cradle his still-throbbing wrist or clench at his gut.

This was bad. This was a very bad situation, and some doggedly rational part of his mind recognised this. He had to do something. Fighting back was out of the question, but he could still get away if he ran now, perhaps if he used England as a distraction -- but the signals to get up and do something seemed to get lost in transit from his brain to his body. For all his efforts to get his body to do what he wanted it do, all he could manage was to gasp for breath and fight back the nearly-overwhelming urge to vomit.
