Writer's Block: Know by Heart
I have gotten lyrics wrong so many times, moreso when I was younger. The one that springs to my mind is Blue - I Wanna Know. I always, always thought that one line in there that Simon sings goes "I wanna know if you see the Engine Man". I thought that for such a long time, recently figured out that it's actually, "I wanna know if you see me as your man". I like my version better, primarily because the lyrics to pretty much every Blue song is sleasey & often bordering on creepy. Thankfully (or not?) I was like 12, and only a quarter of the sleasiness initially registered with me. And also, the fact that I was singing along to a song with an image of a man driving the engine of a train and just assuming that was part of the message of the song amuses me. I just assumed that Simon was a bit of a conspiracy theorist and all that. But hey, considering this is Blue, I say fair call on my behalf.
