Because he seems to be the god figure of this place and can't be killed that easily. Also, Shibusen isn't a private fighting force, they're a worldwide peacekeeping organization. Get your facts straight before you start talking about muddying a situation you don't even understand.

[A god, hmm? This is starting to bring the pieces together to form a picture.]

Funny, I don't think I asked anything except why people didn't take the obvious, easy way out. You know, just out of interest.

Anyway, I'm sure that you're just burning to tell me more about this god and how he helps keeping the peace through the power of love and abduction. Am I right?

[speaking slowly, like he's talking to someone daft] This is a war. War can't be won through love and carelessness, and your easy way out is also the most careless way out I've ever heard to date. You can't just think about killing such an important figure without considering the consequences.

Right now the consequences of that important figure of yours that I'm seeing are abduction, imprisonment and negligent homicide of a considerable amount of humans and others, several minors included.

I'm willing to reassess my opinion, but for that I'd need more than just some righteous prattle.

You can't claim negligent homicide if you just got here days ago. No one's been killed in action for a while now, and it's certainly not Shibusen doing the killing. Rather, you're probably one of those people who won't understand no matter how often things get explained to you. I'd tell you to just stay put for a couple of weeks. It's not like you'll miss much of your world, anyway.

[Oh Kurapika, you realize that you just confirmed that people got killed, right? Ryuuji's smirk widens at the other side of the screen. Gathering information really is easy here.]I can, considering the rate of people that have already gone missing over all those years that this case of 'haunting' has been going on by now. More than ten people, without even a single sign of life from any of them for over twelve years? Yeah, I think it's easy to assume they are no longer alive considering those facts, even if no bodies were found and you hadn't confirmed it just now. As an investigator I ought to care about stuff like that and while nobody of the local upper echelon may have meant to cause any of those deaths, it's still not to deny that they are involved in some kind ( ... )

[What.]

You lost me at "haunting". I have no idea what you're talking about. This--thing, people from other worlds being summoned here, it only started six months ago, not twelve years ago. And there are three things that can happen to you here: you die because you're too weak, you get sent back because you're stupid, or you stay because you're useful. No one knows what happens back in your world when you die, but for the second and third cases, there's not much difference because you'll get returned to the time you were taken, either way, so there's no need for you to be taking that kind of tone with me with regards to your sister.

It's happened several times already. Ask around and talk to those who've been here before if you want.

I'll keep my prejudices to a verifiable minimum if that makes you happy. I still think that just solving the problem would help more, but that's just me.
