[there's a rustle, like paper moving.]After talking to a few of you, it seems more and more clear that many of us are from worlds that are radically different. Both from this one and from one another. Places that we've never heard of on Earth, at least not in my time, and from what seem to be alternate dimensions of Earth... Even Japan sounds ( Read more... )

Ah-- yes, sir. My name is John Watson, formerly of the Royal Army Medical Corps; it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

You as well, sir.

[a pause.] 1890... and I thought I was having trouble adjusting...

[chuckle] Some of the guests come from as far back as the 13th century, or perhaps even further. The technology itself is fairly easy to adapt to, however; it is the principles of the modern man that is more difficult to digest effectively.

And you, sir? Where are you from?

[he does recall talking to one person who was from farther back.]

It was only recently 1972, Japan.

I don't believe I've met anyone here from that time, apart from China. [brightens a little] Will you tell me about the technologies of that time?

But, ah, as for the Japanese, there are plenty here. I believe some of them are samurai from your history?

The beginnings of these devices, perhaps? It seems that technology advances far faster than we can imagine in just fourty years.

And there are two aliens who come hundreds of years into the future. They speak of space travel and touching the stars!

I suppose that would make sense. I don't pretend to be an expert in this sort of thing.

Really? Honest aliens you say? Somehow I imagine they don't look the way we've been told they do...

Tassadar is ten feet tall, and surprisingly blue. [moustache rub] He does not have a mouth, but speaks telepathically.

Perhaps you should meet them later? There is also a very large... machine-like creature, about the size of a small cottage.
