Yes, our souls. Those people that could see into your soul and tell whether you were a meister or weapon should have given you an idea on the fact that souls are rather important in this world.

Likewise is the partnership between meister and weapon. As she said, our souls go together like soy sauce and fried rice... or any other metaphor you could imagine about one thing going with another.

Is there just one partner for each person, and can we work with people who aren't 'compatible'?

I do not think that you can work with people that are not compatible, or else your resonation would wreck havoc, and things would not be pleasant at all.

It would be best to work with someone that you know and are comfortable with. It would depend if you are a meister or a weapon, and there are training sessions for both, so you could train up a bit before you start training with someone you would start to consider a partner.

As for the number of partners: there are some known cases of one meister taking on two weapons at the same time.
