The information will come in time. From what I've learned during classes, weapons are humans who transform into such to be wielded by meisters. Meisters have abilities that may assist them in battle. Weapons may upgrade their strength by eating kishin eggs and one witch soul. The witch soul must exactly be the hundredth soul to be eaten. Kishin eggs come from the souls of people tainted by insanity/crime/etc. The duty of the meister and weapon is to kill these kishin eggs and eat their soul.

No, no, kishin eggs. Apparently, once they have turned into kishin eggs, they are no longer considered human souls. If you eat a human soul, you will turn into a kishin egg. That is where they come from.
