Yes. Kishin Egg and Kishin Powers can vary greatly. The Madness Wavelength, for example, is technically the soul wavelength of Kishin Asura.

Is there a problem?

SHIT.

NOT RIGHT NOW THERE ISN'T. I'M ASKING BECAUSE MY PARTNER IS APPARENTLY GOING TO MAKE A HABIT OUT OF OPENING HER MIND TO KINSHIN, AND I WAS GOING TO BE THE ONE TO FIND OUT SHE'S BEING AN IDIOT AND THEN TELL HER THAT, BUT NO. THIS IS SOMETHING WE GET TO WORK ON FOR REAL NOW. FAN FUCKING TASTIC.

[He's not sure why he bothers anymore, but:]

This is a terrible idea.

I would not recommend it to skilled partners much less the inexperienced. Kishin Eggs are insane. Concentrating on maintaining proper resonance is a strenuous task as is let alone dealing with mental backlash on top of that.

What exactly is the desired effect of "opening her mind" to a Kishin?

TO BUILD UP A RESISTANCE. I MEAN, I GUESS IT MAKES SENSE IN A REALLY RETARDED WAY THAT I HATE, SHE'S A TELEPATH AND ALL, BUT CAN SHE EVEN DO THAT?

[After a fairly lengthy pause.]

I see.

It is a complicated matter. There are ways to learn to resist the Madness Wavelength. I am not sure if the same process will work on this level. She is touching their minds directly, not receiving mere exposure to a wavelength.

The best way to think of a wavelength in another term is as an aura. There may be a significant difference between receiving mere fall-out and tapping the source. But it is not a precise science. Telepathic abilities are not all that common.

I would recommend learning the more conventional means before leaping into the act of mentally bonding with creatures which are utterly insane. That may simply make matters worse before better.

THE ONLY SUGGESTIONS I'VE FOUND ABOUT RESISTING THE MADNESS WAVELENGTH INVOLVED A LOT OF HAPPY HORSESHIT ABOUT HEALTHY SOULS IN STRONG BODIES. THAT OR BEING HALFWAY TO THE LOONEYBLOCK TO BEGIN WITH.

SHE ALREADY DID THE BONDING THING ONCE, AND I GUESS IT DIDN'T GO THE WAY SHE WANTED IT TO. THAT'S WHY I'M EVEN HERE ASKING ABOUT ALL THIS. I DON'T WANT HER TO DO IT AGAIN, BUT I ALREADY KNOW SHE'S GOING TO, AND I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BEFORE IT TURNS INTO SOME HUGE DAMN EMERGENCY.

[Karkat pauses, drumming his fingers, looking pissed off. he's pretty annoyed about this whole thing, but Selendis is his partner, and like it or not they're in this together until they make Three-Star and Deathscythe... or one of them gets returned. or worse.]

SO WHAT ARE THE MORE CONVENTIONAL MEANS?

It is not "horseshit". Those with strong wavelengths and those who are particularly devout are resistant. I am all but immune to madness, for example. Others like Professor Stein who are particularly susceptible to it draw strength from it, but it is extremely dangerous. Over-exposure will permanently damage you.

[Brief pause while he just sighs.]

Yes. I am well-educated in the inclination Guests have in engaging in completely inadvisable activities despite all word of caution ( ... )

[Karkat straightens as he gets this message. of course, of fucking course! he already knew he could ground Selendis. when Vriska enraged her during the whole messy chase sequence awhile ago, he'd been the one to pull her back to rational thought. funny how that worked out. he could smack himself for not figuring this out on his own.

in fact, he does. fuck you and your blind ignorance, Past Karkat.

...this idiot serving as anyone's emotional anchor is probably a recipe for disaster.]

OK, I GOT IT.

AND SINCE SHE'S GOING TO GO DO THIS INCREDIBLY STUPID THING AGAINST ALL KNOWN WISDOM ANYWAY, LOOKS LIKE IT'S ONCE AGAIN UP TO ME TO KEEP SHIT IN CHECK. NOTHING I HAVEN'T BEEN DOING SINCE BEFORE I GOT HERE.

If matters take a significant turn for the worse, please do report it to Shibusen and we will deal with the problem decisively. We cannot afford to have brain-addled Meisters running about freely.

[Karkat doesn't reply. he grew up in a world where culling the weak and infirm was commonplace, and he doesn't want to dwell on Shibusen dealing decisively with his partner.

he swears some more and moves on to making plans. they need to get more eggs, they need to get better as a team, and they definitely need to work on their abilities.]
