[Usually, Near wouldn't give a damn about this kind of case; it was too simple; so obvious that even a small child with no special training and/or high IQ could figure it out. But as it is, he is one of the heads of the agency and needs to keep up the façade of being a helpful detective, even if that means being bored to tears. He was going to let Kurt's aggression slide by-- the culprit had been so obvious ever since the very first word exchange with the victim-- but the sudden appearance of a witness ensured that he could no longer dismiss this case as something that didn't matter, even though it didn't, not to him. The Agency had a purpose and he was supposed to go along with it, no matter how utterly boring it was. Even if Kanaya's recent message made the whole thing pointless, he was still supposed to play by the rules.]

I will skip the pleasantries and go straight to the point: I am messaging you about the attack against Kurt Hummel by a supposedly unknown aggressor. While it has been clear since the beginning that the culprit was Vriska Serket, given her interactions with both Kurt Hummel and Kanaya Maryam over the network and the history that Serket and Maryam seem to have, no actual proof had been found until now. Neither Serket nor Hummel were caught in any of the surveillance cameras, and as far as I'm aware, Hummel did not reveal his attacker's identity.

I am certain that most of you have already read Maryam's most recent entry, in which she explains she took matters into her own hands, thus telling us who was Hummel's attacker even though she did not state it directly. Approximately four minutes before that entry was posted on the network, however, I was approached by one Ms. Sarah Smith, born and raised in Death City, who came to the Agency to denounce what she believes to have been a crime of some sort. Ms. Smith claims to have witnessed "a teenage girl with horns and long dark hair, (...) acting suspiciously" (sic) and exiting the side alley at the Shopping District where Kurt Hummel was later found. This happened at around 17.30 / 5.30 p.m. on the 21st of October, according to Ms. Smith. [And here Near includes a link to a full transcription of their conversation.]

It is unclear why this witness decided to wait until now to share this information; her answers weren't very forthcoming when I brought up that particular detail. It should be noted that Smith was nowhere near the scene, but even from afar, she was able to notice the details she mentioned to me. At the time of the attack, there was only one troll who could match that description: Vriska Serket. Aradia Megido and Feferi Peixes also match Ms Smith's description, but they were brought to Death City after the attack took place, thus making it absolutely clear that Serket was Hummel's attacker.

[Not that it wasn't clear to begin with, but Near has already said that.]

Any questions?

I need you to look into something. There appear to be some technical malfunctions with the surveillance cameras. Glitches, fuzzy images or odd shadows appearing where they shouldn't... It doesn't happen constantly, but it has happened enough times to deserve my attention. I would appreciate it if you two could assess the situation and report your findings to me.

I found the woman you were looking for yesterday.

[He switches to VIDEO and connects the transmission directly to the surveillance system, focusing on War, aka Carmine Zuigiber, as she makes her way inside Death City. Her clothes are torn in some places and there is blood on her skin and clothes, but it doesn't seem to be hers; there are no injuries visible on screen, at least.]

This is her, yes? I believe you are familiar with the area in question, so there is no need for me to draw you a map.
