I wonder if the future they experienced was that of this timeline exactly, or if it was an offshoot. Another timeline entirely, perhaps, another Death City?

Perhaps not, but at least we have an advantage in the people who returned from the future. [He hesitates to continue. He believes he has a point, but the delivery sounds callous.] Whenever they are ready, they can describe the chain of events that led to the future they saw. That way, we can figure out how to do things differently.

Not all factors to a disaster are obvious, even in hindsight. Especially not to those who didn't actually experience them, but were simply told, and from a single point of view.

Don't count on it.

There were more than one of them who returned, which means more than one point of view. Even if their experiences don't offer us a clear picture, at least they provide us some hints or foresight.
