[He had been trying to keep himself from hoping Riff would be here. There had been other newcomers so far, many other people who weren't him, and even though BREW had brought Cain to Death City, he thought it would keep Riff away from him as punishment. Maybe his father was more powerful than he'd thought.

Given that, it wasn't surprising that it took him a moment to register what he was seeing: he barely paid any attention to Riff's words, shocked as he was.

The communicator falls to the floor with a clatter, but not before it recorded his very surprised expression.]

[The sudden sound snaps him back into reality and he rushes to pick it up, glances properly at the screen. He looks almost dazed, as if someone had either slapped or hypnotized him. Probably both. At the same time.]

[Bit by bit, he seems to return to his usual self, although internally he feels as though he's torn between laughing hysterically and sobbing. Thankfully, he manages to keep that under control, but his golden-green eyes are expressive enough to show what Cain is hiding.]
