It's a sad reality perhaps, but there's nothing for it. Worries only go so far, however, and everyone is forced to adapt to circumstances they don't necessarily agree with.

But it's too easy to abandon your dignity when you adapt too much. I'm losing patience. There should be a way to fix their machine -- half the people here are useless as soldiers anyways.

We've tried everything short of losing deliberately to the Witches -- and that's not an option. We're still trying, but it's not like it's... easy.

[His frown deepens into something maybe petulant.] Look, kid, we've been fighting this war for centuries. Don't think that we don't know suffering, either. You're worrying about those that have been left behind or being left behind yourself. I'm worried if my daughter will survive her next mission, but I have to let her walk into it with a smile. Our pains are different, and sure, maybe what I have is inherent to someone from this world, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.
