One Life | Train | Sept 19 | [Video]

[With a quiet blip, the blurry image of somebody poking at their communicator appears. After a little while it focuses, to reveal a youthful, bewildered looking face peering curiously at the object in his hands. He doesn't seem to be treating it awfully carefully, judging by how perspective seems to rotate and jerk abruptly at odd intervals. There' ( Read more... )

There's a board with missions to take up, it's...sort of like bounty hunting.

[The little girl on the screen looks a little tired and her eyes are a bit puffy, like she's been crying a lot.

Although by 'a lot' it's more off and on the past day or so]

But I think you...you have to have a partner for it... And the only, um, gun you can get would be a person whose weapon form is a gun... I think.

[Oh, a little girl. He's caught a bit off-guard, but not nearly as much as by the signs of crying. His response is a touch muted.]

Oh. Thank you, I'll look into that.

...

Are you alright?

[She pauses and rubs lightly at her eyes with a sleeve] U-um... My meister was taken from me recently... and my bosses shortly before him.

This place can do that-- taking people randomly and sending them back home.

I see. I'm sorry to hear it. [He gives a sympathetic look.]

Your Meister... you're a Weapon too? [He barely knows anything about... well, anything, here.]

[She can't say 'I'm fine' because that's a clear lie and she just looks away.]

Um, yes, I am. I turn into a computer.

[Oh man, choosing his words carefully was not exactly Train's forte, even if he was more than capable of compassion and sensitivity. There's a brief pause, then:]

Can you do any neat stuff as a computer? [Better than "What, really?" anyway.]

[She perks up a tiny bit and nods] Mm. I can enter other computers or appliances or even the communicators and cause them to malfunction, and create holograms.

Um... And I can let out an electric wave, to harm enemies. [A small pause] I think that's all.

Whoa, that's pretty cool. You could have heaps of fun with that. [All totally legal fun, of course. Sly grin.]

Wait. [He blinks.] Holograms? Seriously?

Um, I suppose. I use it mostly to repair other electronics and things.

[She nods] yes. The longer I'm with my meister, the more lifelike and realistic the hologram I can make of them will be. But I can make a hologram image of anyone if I've met them before.

[There's a long, expressionless pause before he bursts into a wide grin.]

That's awesome! Holograms are pretty high-tech stuff. [You'd think for someone who associates with a girl made of nanomachines back in his own world, he'd be slightly less impressed to meet one who can do things that most computers can't. He isn't.]
