[The video clicks on to show a woman on the network, surveying her communicator.]

So this is how it works...

[The woman looks directly at the screen now, and while she doesn't look actively angry, she doesn't look much like a happy camper either.]This is for communication, right? I'm Doctor Naomi Kimishima, of the Cumberland Institute of Forensic ( Read more... )

Are you a meister or a weapon?

A meister. And you are?

My name is Kurapika. [And because he's not quite sure if you're asking who he is or what he is--] I'm a weapon.

I apologize for suddenly asking you out of the blue, but I wanted to know. If you're a meister, then you might have a meister ability related to your skills back in your world.

An ability?

...If it's related to what I could do back home, then I have a couple ideas as to what it might be.

[curious tilt of the head; he's really eager to know if you have any healing ability] Such as?

Healing, most likely. I was a surgeon until recently...and since then, I've been working as a medical examiner. I doubt you can have too many abilities relating to the dead.

[And now he nods his head.] I'm... hoping that might be the case. Even if you decide not to fight, at least, you can still contribute if you want to.

[bewildered mutter] ... Healing abilities aren't that common here.

[A slight frown.]

Not that common? You'd think...I was told they didn't have many doctors--or healers--relative to those who are supposed to fight here, but if the BREW has the ability to give people abilities then it's strange that there would be fewer healers.

We're mostly... combat-oriented, I suppose. It makes sense in a way. If you want to increase an army's offensive force quickly, pad its ranks with more soldiers.

But without anybody to aid the injured, what does it matter? That would only be throwing their lives away.

There are a few. There's Winry, but she can only heal weapons with her meister ability. Doctor Watson can heal both meisters and weapons, but he has to be wielded while in weapon form.

[sigh] I had the ability to heal myself and others back in my world. I keep hoping that it had been carried over here, but... [He trails off, wistful frown on his face.]

A few to save this many lives...it's good that they're training others to be able to practice without any new powers.

[nodding] There's always basic first aid, which not a lot of people know how to do properly. So it's really good to hear that you're an experienced physician. [And not questionable, like Crane.]

I'll be looking into that. Do you have any knowledge of the training that has gone on so far?

[shaking his head] I'm sorry, I don't. [He's pretty much resigned himself to being counted in the offensive unit.]

All right. I'll just have to find out from other sources. It shouldn't be too difficult.
