[ooc; I'm back! With.. this. In order to avoid confusion: Amber and Shilo (
chasingcures ). LJ cut because no one wants to see obnoxious font on their flist.]
[Suddenly, the feed starts broadcasting. Between some clattering (assumed to be the PDA falling), two footfalls can be heard near the PDA before someone begins to yell.]
What are you doing?
[There's the sound of a page turning, and then a tiny pause.]
I'm reading.
Instead of what I asked you to be doing? That's no good, Shi.
...Don't call me Shi.
[The moment 'Shi' speaks, the first woman begins to move again, footsteps fading away from the PDA.]
I can call you whatever I want.
[The sound of someone plopping into a chair.]
Why are you even here?
[Her voice comes out sharp and irritated, and there's the sound of the book being closed.]
To check up on you. Make sure you're honoring your agreement.
[A pause.]
The assignment I've taken up- I'm putting you on it. You're better bait than I am, if we're going to set up a trap. If your dad's really here, he'd want to see you the most, I think.
Who are you to talk about what my dad would've wanted? Besides, this wasn't my idea in the first place. The only reason why I'm "better bait" is because you're just too scared to do it on your own, aren't you?
[And then, a shing!, followed by the sound of a chair being pushed over. The woman's next words come harshly, but quietly. It's hard to hear what she says, but if you listen very, very closely...]
You agreed to go into this with me, don't you dare think about backing out. You know the consequences of that, I'm sure. As for being 'too scared to do it on my own', I have done everything in this operation myself. All of the dirty work was done by my hands. Is it too much to ask for a little cooperation?
[There's a long, tense silence, and the only sound that can be heard for awhile is the sound of heavy breathing. And then her voice comes out once again, louder and angry.]
I'm not the one who has to resort to threats! And I didn't agree to anything; the only reason this is even going on is because you're trying to force me! I'm not a slave, despite what you would like to believe.
[There is no response from Amber. Only the soft noise of metal puncturing the flesh. She speaks softly, and calmly (with an undertone of violence).]
Think what you want, Shi. No matter how much you try and tell yourself that, you still belong to GeneCo. Just like your father did. Just like Blind Mag did. You may think that because we're not home, because my brothers aren't here, because Zydrate doesn't exist anymore, that you're free. You aren't. I let you go to that little party, didn't I? I had my reasons. Be glad I let you go at all. Maybe I'll throw you into the streets for that freak to find you, and let him get you. How would you like that, huh, Shi?
[A hiss of pain. And then, lowly...]
You're not the boss of me. ...And I know you won't kill me. You need me, don't you? You need someone else to do your dirty work so you don't have to anymore. And you know that you can't get anyone else, as long as we're the only ones here from home. Amber Sweet is nothing but a coward!
You sound so sure about that.
Well, you could kill me right now if you wanted to. ...But you're not.
[What she says next is completely inaudible.]
Maybe I'm waiting.
Waiting for what?
Can't tell you.
Then I won't do it.
Hm.
[There are footfalls again, growing louder as she approaches the PDA. There's the sound of someone rummaging through a bag, and then footsteps again, fading away.]
Oh, really.
...What are you doing?
[There's shifting, and then the thud of the book hitting the ground.]
Stay away from me.
I'll only use it if necessary, Shi. Do I need to?
[Dead silence.]
[Said with a smile in her voice.]
I thought so.
[A small sigh, before she speaks, quietly.]
...What do you need me to do?
[... And then the feed times out, with neither of them aware that the PDA was recording their meeting.]
