[Privately Coded to Mello]
I need $400, a pink carnation, and a Taser.
[Privately Coded to Haru]
We're eating at Dorsia, and then seeing the film "Resonating in Cypress." This is beginning tomorrow at 7:00; expect a taxi. I'm meeting you at the restaurant.

Can you get these things for me by tomorrow?

If you expect to need a taser, why are you going in the first place?

I'll be at the apartment until 6:30 PM, so I'll need the items before then.

Who is it? Are you going to need surveillance?
[And someone ready to kick this guy's ass, he might as well add.]

He errs on the side of safety.]
It's Haru. He's a quarter lynx; he is a male prostitute with a fetish for violence, this much I have determined. Another part-cat, Leo, might have drugged him at one point, and I want to find out. I attended a party of his over the New Year, and he informed me that he wouldn't tell me certain things unless I took him out on a "date."
So I am. And surveillance, I think, would be a necessity. If you don't mind, of course.

[Mello sounds dubious, because he is. He's mostly ignored Haru on the network, assuming anyone so obsessed with his own sexual prowess is either deluded or seriously compensating.]
I know Leo. [Who is less difficult to take seriously, and who has a determined, independent streak Mello both approves of and is annoyed by.] What's the relevance of him drugging Haru?
And I don't mind. Permission to shoot first and ask questions later if he tries to grope you?

[Rhetorical question.]
Ah, then you've met the more reasonable and less overtly eccentric of the two. If he did then it would explain the reason they're no longer friends, and Haru's aversion to incorporating drugs into his sex life. It got an... interesting reaction when I made an offhand comment about it during our first conversation. And there are some inherent contradictions in his story versus Leo's. The two are no longer friends, but they know each other very well, and... frankly, it's a dynamic that's endlessly interesting to me. I want to understand it better.
[Maybe because it'll help him understand other relationships, including Mello and Near's, better. L has a thing for antagonism and treachery.]
Mm... if you do shoot him, make sure it's after I've found out what I want to. But, yes... you have my permission to take action if things take a turn for the dangerous... or the lascivious. I confess that I don't know how to handle that type of situation very well ( ... )

It's also obvious to Mello that L has predicted his intentions correctly, and that he was counting on having done. Unlike most people, L can get away with that.]
Kicking him in the face would send a clear signal, if I don't have a good shot.

I'll be wearing a black tie, and I'll take care to put a small camera and microphone inside the knot. You'll be able to see and hear everything I do, just in case a kick only encourages him.

[From what Mello's seen of this guy, a kick might count as foreplay to him.]
I'll be ready.
