[ The communicator flicks on and Anders is reclining in the desk chair in front of it, doing his very best to look like he's comfortable in his surroundings. This is hilariously far from the truth, but there's something to be said for making a good show of it anyway. He's apparently not had time to go looking for new clothing, as his is still badly

Well, that's not too far off from what I'm used to back home. I've simply learned to take pride in my abilities, rather than hating myself for them, as our captors so earnestly try to teach.

It seems I have dredged up some bad memories for you. I assure you, it hadn't been my intention to do that.
[The quality of his voice is soft, almost kind and smooth as a snake.]
However...from what you say, I don't think the two situations are all that similar.

Mage-born children are rare and feared - I fail to see the difference.

You mentioned captors. That in itself is already a pretty big difference.
In my world, people who can use magic tend to die earlier than those without. The widely held belief is that the reason for this is because their magic is the product of a disease and that this disease can be contagious. No one, from where I come from, would even think of capturing a magic user for any reason because they'd be too afraid of catching whatever disease they have.

Well, I can't say there's not some similarities about the magic as a curse or disease, and those of us outside the Circle do tend to die terribly young...
But I honestly can't say if what you're describing is better or worse. At least your mages have some degree of freedom over their own lives, for what it's worth.

[Not that he'd tried very hard to correct people. After all, as long as the people believed this then when large amounts of people started to turn into mindless magic using monsters from using his mineral powder, he would have a scapegoat to blame.]
Honestly, it sickens me to think that some people could be so ignorant.

[ He blinks, and whatever it was that was going on stops. Anders scrubs at his face, tired by the subject matter. ] I take it from your word choice that you are not a mage yourself, then?

Though I have always felt that magic users have the potential to do so much good for others. [Like helping him take over the world.] It is tragic that they cannot openly use their powers to help others without being scorned.

If only opinions like yours were more common back home. Things need to change, but without support it just seems so helpless.

Then again, when has change ever come easily? Sometimes the only way for it to happen at all is to make it happen yourself.

I know. And I will. Just because I know there is no chance at compromise doesn't mean it is the path I had hoped for.

He can't say he understands his sentiments though. The concept of 'compromise' doesn't exist in Waltz's personal dictionary.]
We do what we must.
[Then, with all the grace and indolence of the aristocrat he was raised to be.]
I seem to have neglected to introduce myself. I am Count Waltz of Forte.

He does reply eventually though, and seems to be back into something approximating a calm mood. ] Good to meet you. Do you go by your title here? [ ...not that he's very accustomed to respecting such things, but Waltz has been good conversation so far. ]
