[ The communicator flicks on and Anders is reclining in the desk chair in front of it, doing his very best to look like he's comfortable in his surroundings. This is hilariously far from the truth, but there's something to be said for making a good show of it anyway. He's apparently not had time to go looking for new clothing, as his is still badly ( Read more... )

There are plenty of people here that have little in the way physical fighting skills, so you shouldn't worry about that too much.

Ah, I am Flynn Scifo, second command of the guest run Watch. If you find you need anything while you're here please don't hesitate to say so.

[ ---Maker, this kid can't be a day over 20, if that. The "Watch" must be a welcoming committee or something similarly useless. ]

[ At least he seems polite enough, even if the heavy armor is making Anders wary. ]

I have to wonder whose idea it was to bring a bunch of non-combatants into a war zone.

[Flynn completely misses any unease]

If you need to blame anything, blame the BREW. According to the locals it has a bit of a mind of it's own and picks people based on some pattern none of us understand.

That does seem to be the case. [ Linefacing goes here. ] From what I can tell, it's doing a very poor job of building an army.

When I first arrived here I would have agreed with you. But the more I've seen how fighting works here I'm not so sure. What makes a good combatant here isn't always what does in a normal army.

Oh? Does our enemy have a particular weakness to big sticks? Because that's about the upper limit of my combat skills, and BREW has so thoughtfully taken away my ability to heal.

If that stick is a person turned weapon? Then yes, they do. Though my own healing abilities were taken too, so I can understand.

[ ....He'll come back to that whole 'person turning into a weapon' bit later. ]

...you were a mage?

Not a very GOOD mage, but yeah, I knew a few healing and attack spells. I was always better with a sword though.

[ Anders' previously distant attitude softens somewhat at the admission. ]

That's quite an unlikely combination. Whatever do they teach mages in your world?

My friend, Witcher, is a much better mage, so I leave those types of things to him. No real point trying to force myself into a role I... honestly can't do very well. I already had some experience with a sword when I joined the Knights, so I trained more in that and picked up some magic mostly on my own time.

So you are- were a Knight and a mage...on the side? [ He's pretty baffled and not even bothering to hide it. It's absolutely bizarre to think of someone being allowed to study magic as...as a hobby. ] Is that common where you're from?
