[The feed turns on to a room that is a little foggy. Mostly smoke but Holmes isn't one to open the window when there is snow outside. He is, however, hazing out the window at the snow. Watching the people a bit before he turns his attention to the camera. Obviously this wasn't an accident.]I suppose it is customary to wish others a Happy ( Read more... )

[Watson sees the post as he's coming home, having seen to the clinic for the evening before retiring for the holidays. He's a good man that way. Watson's initial thought is that no -- their enemies don't deserve mercy after the way he and his comrades in tragedy have been treated -- but Watson is an inherently good man. If the Witches can find it in themselves to let this day pass peacefully, Watson would extend his gratitude to them.]

[He enters the room with some noise, thumping the snow and mud off his shoes as he gets in, making a face at the smoke but not looking too put out by it.] Holmes, my dear old friend, do open the windows. This is absolutely poisonous.

[Even a little noise would have alerted Holmes. He simply glances over his shoulder at Watson. The detective had moved to one of the windows and was watching the snow.

Considering the day he obliged his companion and cracked open the window. He enjoyed the crisp wind that blew in for a few moments.]

I was in need of occupation. Snow is aesthetically appealing, but it seems even criminals do not enjoy cold feet.

And that's fortunate, of course. [amused, that's what Watson is. He moves further into the room as the smoke clears, removing his coat and shrugging the snow off it, before hanging it up next to the door. The heater, he adjusts to something more humanely warm and can counter the window draft for now.]

Have you been here all day? It's lovely outside, if a tad cold.

I would argue that. Cold feet may lead to more patients for a doctor.

[Of course that would keep Watson busy, but safer. And also closer to what Holmes was investigating at the moment.]

I find little use in being out today.

[He's sitting on the open windowsill now.]

It would, of course. [he smiles slightly, but it makes his moustache twitch.]

[Watson puts a package that he had been carrying earlier -- it's just a wine box, nothing mysterious -- on the table, and looks around him. He's itching to give his present that's in his medicine bag, but it seems anti-climactic...] Have you eaten anything at all today, Holmes?

No, I have not.

[He can already hear a bit of a tirade there but he'll push on and pretend he isn't expecting it.

The snow is bringing up a bit of nostalgia.]

I've been occupied.

I suppose it’s far better than you are than if you weren’t. But here, my friend, please do nourish yourself. [In which Watson hands over a Deathbucks sandwich, which he had brought in his medicine bag (properly bagged, yes).]

And I have a present for you, of course. Do come down from there, Holmes.

[But he enjoys perching on things like a thin limbed, brooding cat. He stretches a bit and sets his feet back into their slippers and pads towards the good doctor.]

Of course, my dear Watson. It would not be Christmas without a heartfelt exchange of goods.

[The tone doesn't match the words though as Holmes voice is a bit warmer then it tends to be when speaking of the softer side of human emotions. This is, after all, the first holiday season he has had with his Boswell since the Falls.]

[A very engagingly thin limbed, brooding cat, yes. But it's time for food, my dear.]

[That catches his attention. Oh, did Holmes give him something? But Watson is aware, yes. It's really... been a long three years.]

Happy Christmas, Holmes. [happily]

[He is fine with what he hasn't eaten but...it is Christmas.

Of course he has something for Watson. Holmes nods before letting a soft smile into his eyes.]

Happy Christmas, Watson.

[He'll step away from his chair and ta-da. A nice gift wrapped box. Holmes really tried for a normal paper but that seems to be rather difficult to obtain in this time.]

[blink, and looks delighted! His eyes light up and he hastily also retrieves his present for Holmes from his bag. It's a smallish box in comparison, but he selected that carefully from the novelty stores around town.]

Should we open them?

[Oh, Watson...Holmes is now so glad he bothered with this holiday. And size really doesn't matter because Holmes takes the box carefully.

He'll wait to open it. It has just been too long since he has seen such a truly happy John Watson before him.]

After you dear fellow.

[An impish grin there, because Holmes is being unnecessarily considerate to him, but all right.]

[Watson looks considerably even more happy when he does open his package and sees the medical bag inside. His own had become very worn, and all these new medicines won’t fit anymore.]

Why, Holmes! [turns to his friend in glee.] Thank you, dear friend.

[It's a bit of selfish reason why Holmes is indulging Watson, but allow him to do so this once.

Holmes simply nods at the gratitude.]

I noticed that it would particularly useful.

[Of course a simple one would suffice for that but let us ignore that particular fact, hmm?

Taking his own gift, Holmes examines the package. After a moment he unwraps it and lets a small smile cross his features.

He will be putting that snuff to it's full usage as soon as he is able.]

Why, Watson it seems you noticed the rather sad state of my pipe.

...

Thank you, my friend.

[stiffles laughter] It was difficult to miss -- to observe, to deduce, after all...

[But now he's inspecting his new bag to see how he's moving the items from his old one here.] It's been a while since we've had Christmas together, Holmes.

[A small twitch of his lips in amusement.]

It is good to see my methods being put into practice.

[He is now rather intent on using this new lovely pipe but he pauses to look up at Watson.]

...it truly has, my Watson.

Three years.
