In my own country, I had never been the one to maintain the Advent candles. The observance in Britain had always been a more quiet affair... aside from the Mass at mid-night this morning, we fasted until the day of Christmas.

There are a great many practises that exist now that were unknown in my era. They have been most interesting to observe. I am likewise gladdened that winter is no longer something to be regarded with trepidation. If the people no longer fear its chill and may eat their fill, that is a most happy thing.
