[ wow. good job figuring that out, Rin. really, though, his primary concern is that - ]

I haven't even started shopping yet! Shit!

[ because he's never had the means to actually get people nice things before. ]

I haven't, either. But then, I haven't really anyone to shop for or any desire to receive gifts myself, so.

Man. What a sad life you must have.

It would be sad if I desired gifts, but I don't. Therefore it's relatively free of any strong emotional association...

But it's more about the people...

Christmas isn't about people. It's about a date of religious significance that was borrowed and mutated from pagan origins, and further mutated by greed.

Dude, I grew up in a church. I know about it's "religious significance" and I don't give a shit. The importance of the holiday to me is about being together. I'm sure it's that way for other people too.

Presents are cool and all, but it's not about what you give or get. It's about the feelings of the person that gave it to you.

Did you know that, even though it's a myth that more suicides are committed on average during Christmas, human beings tend to get very depressed during the holidays? The crowds, weather and changes in normal eating, exercise and sleeping patterns are very stressful.

It would be depressing if you had to face them alone.

[ only logical reason in his mind. 8V ]

For most people, yes. But some do choose to.

Pretty sure no one really wants to be alone. Even when they think they do.

You definitely don't. I can hear it in your voice... did someone leave you, once?

[ there goes the awkward laugh. ]

I have no idea what you're talking about, man.

You practically just said it yourself. You don't want to be left alone, even if you sometimes seem like you want to be. Generalizations like this (and others in this conversation) tend to be tossed off by people who view humanity from the outside in, or else people who are firmly integrated with the species and have come to terms with their role as a human being.

You say that because you personally feel that way, in other words. Have you been lonely for much of your life, to value company so much?

[It's probably growing somewhat apparent what type of person L considers himself, of the options presented.]

[ and this conversation has just went over his head. ]

Uh... No? Maybe, I don't know. Yukio's always been around so it wasn't that bad?

I don't know Yukio. Your assertion means nothing to me.

[He's trying to be patient.]
