You do not "mess up people," but yes you will be paid if you complete the mission successfully. Any unnecessary damages incurred will be deducted from the reward.

Messin' them up or keepin' them calm, it's the same damn difference. Point is, we show our teeth, scare them into better behavin' and then we get money and loot.

I really wish you wouldn't put it that way. There are different methods when it comes to subduing others, and using pure crude, brute force is not one of them. This isn't some excuse for a brawl.
