[If you saw D at the festival and thought he looked tired then, you'll notice that now he looks remarkably awake, well-rested, and healthy. D even looks rather happy, despite the fact that he seems a bit alarmed by the chaos he's woken up to.]

My goodness, quite a bit has happened while I was asleep, it seems. [Yeah. He slept from the festival ( Read more... )

The festival was a smashing success, I would say. Bad news to follow, but at least they've had their fun before heading out.

Concerning the other matter, might I be of some assistance?

Thank you, Castor.

Ah, perhaps. I'm not sure what to get my partner for Christmas. It's not something I normally celebrate, and I'm not good with technology.

For your partner? I see. Then you'll be looking for something a step above the ordinary, no doubt. I myself am still learning of the ways technology works in this world, but I'm certain that between the two of us, we could arrive at some conclusion.

[concerned for a moment]

I hope you do not mind my asking, dear, but I did not inquire during the festivities in hopes to gain the knowledge on my own. What is the significance of "Christmas" and the gift-giving? Why might some Users celebrate while others do not? I'm afraid I'm quite in the dark on this one.

Yes. Shaun can be difficult to shop for. I would appreciate the help.

[The concern gets D's attention.]

Ah. You asked a good question. [D gives him a patient smile.] It is a religious holiday, and since not everyone is of the same religion, some don't celebrate. I'm sure there's probably a book in the library that could explain it better than I can. Gift-giving is part of the tradition and is even done by many people who do not participate in the religion at all.

Name your place and time, and we can explore this "gift giving" together.

[listens intently to the explanation of the holiday]

My experience with religion sadly is not the most reassuring. On the Grid, one either believes in the Users or not. It was not an idea to be celebrated. [his expression restructures itself into something more like his usual] I do so like this "Christmas" idea better.

Hmm... well, I do still need to take you to the pet store. Would you like to go tomorrow? It gets dark early this time of year, so I get off work early too.

[D smiles.] And then perhaps you could tell me more about the Grid and what you think of Users, if you don't mind.

It would be an absolute treat to go out tomorrow. I'll try my best not to bore you with religious debate. It's a touchy subject for many in my situation, you understand. But of course, I'll satisfy all of your curiosities. Ask me anything you like.

Promises, promises. [D playfully flutters his eyelashes.] It doesn't have to be a religious debate, dear Castor. I'm simply interested in hearing things from your point of view. When and where shall we meet tomorrow?

As you wish, my sweet. I shall polish my point of view so that it is fit for your lovely ears. Feel encouraged to interrupt at any part, so that I may fulfill your every want for information. I daresay I have a few questions of my own, since we'll be on the subject.

When and where? That's a fine question. Do you require a moment to freshen up after you get off work, or shall we go straight away? The more time in your company would be a treat.

[there's loud sound from off-screen, indicating and interruption]

Give us a moment, won't you?

My most sincere apologies, but it appears that supplies for my little project have arrived ahead of schedule. Since my arrival in this world, I have learned the relevance of the phrase "perishable" in reference to "food" so it is unfortunate that it's not the type of thing that will not wait for us.

If you're not too cross with me, contact me when you are free again, and I promise we shall make a grand spectacle of it.

[D waits patiently while Castor deals what he needs to, then gives him an understanding smile.]

I promise I won't be forever cross with you. I'm probably free whenever, so we can speak about it soon and arrange a better time.

My dear sweet D, I could not bear it if you were to be cross with me for long. As it is, I will make it up to you for this glitch in the plan. [Arriving ahead of schedule. It's an inexcusable break from protocol and just as bad as being late]

I eagerly await the continuance of this little discussion at a later date.

I will be looking forward to it, dear Castor. [A friendly smile shows he's not upset.]

Go take care of what you must.
