*Clare is looking more than a bit nervous. Of course the paper is in her hands so that's not surprising, really. It takes a few moments of gathering courage to start speaking. Random pauses in her words as spoke, asking a question she didn't want an answer to ( Read more... )

...You're not very convincing.

If it helps, I wish I could believe you.

I don't really believe myself, either.

[Then a serious face.]

I guess the question now is whether or not you're willing take the situation into your own hands or leave to others and see what happens when the time comes.

*There's a lot of pause before she speaks again. Moments where it looks like she might say something... then doesn't. It takes a few tries.*

*She looks away, distracted and quiet.*

...I don't know.

[Vash's expression softens a bit.]

That's alright too. It's not an easy decision to make. In the mean time, there's a lot of people here who act like they don't want to see anybody get hurt. So no matter what, you're not alone.

People like you?

I don't want to see people get hurt but... I'm just me. I'm not a warrior, or a ninja, or anything but just a girl in way over her head.

What do I do?

Yeah! So many of us, I think we need to start either a club or a support group, I'm not really sure which at this point.

You know, where I'm from, we don't even have ninjas and most of the people would consider themselves warriors are actually outlaws and bandits. There was never enough lawmen to go around and without the army to come in and save them, a lot of towns were at the mercy of those creeps. I bet you can guess how the townsfolk felt when they were in over their heads with a gun against their back.

But, when push came to shove, they did what they needed to when it came to defending their home and their families. [Vash pauses. It's not really a happy story for him.] On one hand it's terrible to see something like a gun in the hands of a mother, or young boys and girls picking up the fight... but on the other hand it goes to show that even normal humans can do these incredible acts of bravery when their hearts call for it.

When the whole town takes a stand, it sends the bad guys packing, and none of it would be possible if every individual normal human didn't say "I'll fight if I have to.". ...And fighting doesn't have to mean killing.
