have you actually been to minnesota? It's actually a lot nicer than any other state I've been to. It's cleaner there, better pay, nice arts community, nice health care system, people are not giant assholes, it produced Prince (I'm not really sure if that's a plus but its fun to tell people I'm from the same place as him).. It just gets really, really cold in the winter. And if you really need convincing that Minnesota isn't lame, spend a week in North Dakota and you'll be convinced there are worse places to be.
Also, I may be biased as I believe most of the Northeast is filled with overweight assholes who never learned to drive properly.

yeah, i was actually born in minnesota, and my dad's entire family lives there, though i've only been there a few times. i guess i just think of minnesota as maine minus the ocean plus the twin cities. it seems to me that there are a lot of hicks there too, especially in the north. i do like the twin cities though, which is where i'd be anyway.

It's not as bad as Maine to me. I can't recall a single time I've dealt with a jerk in Minnesota. People are unnaturally nice there for some reason. Then here, its like every person you encounter is an asshole. Maybe its because I work retail, I don't know.
I wasn't born in Minnesota but I spent a lot of my childhood there, in the north. The worst thing I've really heard from people up there is their hatred of Indian reservations, but I don't think they entirely realize why the reservations are in such shitty condition with huge crime rates.
And Minnesota is a pretty liberal state. It has a better liberal track record than Massachusetts. It has voted for liberal candidates every year since the 1970s, while Massachusetts hasn't actually. A lot of people don't believe that when I tell them, they assume Minnesota has way more conservatives than liberals due to it being in the Midwest.
