with each passing day... take for eg yester...
I lead the sales team... i feed them with leads and try to help them with bringing new sales... when we sell ad space we give ed space as well... to help the advertiser... there are ed deadlines to meet and ad deadlines..
Ed deadlines are naturally always earlier than ad deadlines... the sales people sometimes just go past the ed deadline and just try to push their way for their client.. they've been told time and again that its not something that will be acceptable by production team if they choose to do so.. but some of the sales people are pretty good and talking their way through and going to RB if production does not approve.. and most of the time RB gives her approval... I feel for the sales team... because i've been in their shoes before..i know how hard it already is to get the client to sign on the dotted line.. and sometimes they will only sign knowing that they are going to be promised ed space in a particular theme of their interest... clients are oblivious to deadlines given to them.... they will take their own sweet time with whatever they do... so when they finally sign up! the sales managers are over the moon and will scramble to do whatever it takes to please their clients...
SB on the other hand who is the head of production is never happy with this.. and always gives me the brunt of things... so boy did i burst yesterday.. in my most firm and authorative voice (which i never knew existed until a cat fight with someone for a cab yesterday morning) i said to her... the sales team are not children.. they are well aware of deadlines and seriously i dont blame them if they overlook once in a while... but she seriously would not accept this because if we gave in once we will have to have to give in all the time.. i said to her... why dont you try being in their shoes... she says she does not want to thank you very much.. so i told her flatly.. whatever you are unhappy about please be my guest to come by to the sales meeting on monday and voice it out...she gives me the most uncomfortable look at this point and a nervous laughter and said no... So i said stop complaining.. she goes i am not complaining.. and i say what are u doing then please enlighten me.. she gives a nervous laughter again.. she realises at this point.. i am not her scape goat anymore.. and will not be made one.. and that i do stand up for my team.. and i slowly watch her retreat back... i go YES! Cat Power!
