The recovery took a good while, but once it was done Bontenmaru was better than ever, strength and energy returned to him when he once lost it and the first thing the boy did once he was well was to step out of his room and go around the mansion once. Until now he never had the chance to because he had always been shut in his own room and stuck in his own quarters, but now that had changed and starting from today he was going to put his all in becoming the man he resolved himself to be.

He was nearly done with his trip around the mansion when he bumped into his mother, and Bontenmaru quickly scrabbled back once he saw her. Yoshihime stood impassively, looking unnaturally beautiful as ever and having all of the fine looks which the boy had inherited but could never display until now. Now with the lack of bandages over his face and only an eyepatch to show instead, Bontenmaru did look a lot better than he used to.

But even then still the woman only scowled in disgust, scolded her son harshly for showing his abominable face at her and quickly turned away, moving off quickly before Bontenmaru could say anything in return. He remained standing there for who knows how long, only responding when Koujurou finally came around to look for him and asked him if anything was wrong.

Bontenmaru only stared at the corridor where his mother was hours before for a long moment and then looked back at Koujurou, shaking his head in response and hoping that the retainer didn't see the way his eye had turned red. No, everything's fine.

No time for tears now; he was just going to have to work harder.
