plus one. His phone rings over and over again, and Phoenix doesn't even need to look at the ID to know that its Maya. No doubt by now she's heard about what happened and it wanting to ask how he is. Phoenix knows that he should pick up the call and talk to her, quelling her fears and doubts and listening to her voice. He's always appreciated her infectious energy and enthusiasm, liked her eternal optimism and in the days when he was still a lawyer, found her nothing but good company.

He should pick up the phone and talk to her, to tell her about what happened and tell her about his plans now to do what had to be done.

The phone continues to ring, the Steel Samurai ringtone blaring in the silence of the room. Trucy is still held by foster services, and Phoenix needs to go there soon to properly sort out the paperwork so that he can formally adopt her. Child services would most likely hate him for this, but Phoenix couldn't imagine the child going anywhere else.

He looks down at the phone again, the ringtone still sounding as the phone rings once more. Phoenix only stays still for a moment before he switches off his cellphone and chucks it under the pillow of his bed.

He can't afford to miss Maya now, not when he has other things to do.
