New Mission Category

Hello, Soul Campaigners! We'd like to announce another mission category that we're going to put into place!

Adventure Missions

These missions are designed like a Choose Your Own Adventure story. These are pre-planned missions where the adventure planner will give you a scenario, and your characters will make choices to help them advance in their mission. However, the player will not be able to find out what the consequences are until after the choice has been made. The consequences of the choices will be determined by the planner.

  • Consequences might include injuries that you cannot determine beforehand! There will be a danger level warning on the mission board to tell you how much damage to expect, however. A high level of danger might involve injuries that will force your character to abandon the mission. Because these are consequences are not controlled by the player, the dice roll will not apply to these missions.
  • You will have options to back out of the mission if too much damage has been sustained (or some other reason).
  • You can currently only claim one out of every ten CYOA missions that are put up. Once you claim it, the mission is yours. Even if you fail it, you can decide if your characters will try the mission again. They can choose to either try again at a later date or abandon the mission entirely.
  • If you choose to abandon, that mission will not go towards the 1 in 10 mission count. You can still pick a new mission from the ten (as long as they are available).
  • The Mission planner will contact you to schedule out which day would be best to log.
  • If there's anything that really squicks you out and you want to avoid it at all cost, let the Runner know when they contact you! Everyone has certain fears that they don't want to play out, and that's absolutely okay! (For example, you might not want to encounter spiders if possible!)
  • Only five missions will be unlocked at a time. You can still claim a mission from the locked section, but just note that you’ll have to wait for the unlocked missions to be finished before you can schedule yours. It will always go in order (6 will be unlocked first, then 7, then 8, etc.)
  • You CAN claim an Adventure Mission even if you’ve claimed a Regular/Watch/Investigation mission. However, Shibusen recommends no more than one to two missions per character per in-game week, and missions should be spaced in three to four-day intervals. This applies to characters with regular or multiple partners. Remember this when scheduling your log!
  • These must be logged, and cannot be handwaved. This will not count as a logged mission after using two handwaved missions.
  • Consider this a test run so the current rules may or may not change depending on how the first sets go. We might also ask for volunteers to help run these missions in the future!

DANGER LEVELS

VERY HIGH; There will be extreme levels of violence and psychological trauma that can result from the choices made, and can very well be permanent* (for example, eye gouging means permanent blindness in that eye!). Retreat will almost be necessary if these injuries happen to your characters.

*NOTE: the Runner will always contact the player before making any permanent changes to their character (basically, we won't take out your eye if you don't want that to happen!)! If it's an unwanted change, we will have alternatives for you!

HIGH; Characters will more than likely come out with severe injuries (anywhere from broken bones to deep gashes) or temporary status effects (temporary poison, blindness, etc.). Psychological trauma might also be a thing. Retreat will probably be a high consideration, but tougher characters should be able to push through.

MEDIUM; There will be violence, but not as often as the higher levels and nowhere near as dangerous. You will probably get scraped, bruised, clawed, and at the worst, some broken bones. You shouldn't have to retreat unless there's significant blood loss (aka a stream of bad choices).

LOW; You might get scrapes and bruises, but the danger levels are pretty tame. Some of these might even be fun (or completely ridiculous).

You can find the available missions here and these rules here for future reference! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here.
