Tenten tried just as valiantly as Gai is now to fend off the threat. The people here were her friends, and in some cases, pseudo-family. She couldn't let madness take over, dreams get burned or people get hurt. It wasn't her, or anyone on Team Gai's style. So, with all of her pluckiness, she put her life on the line and tried to stop him with a complete abysmal result.

As Gai passies through her district, he can notice one building practically being consumed in flames, with smoke clouding the immediate area, and one very charred Tenten attempting to crawl out of it. She looks terrible. Her face was noticeably bruised and parts of her clothes were now ashes that were being left in a pile behind her as she desperately dragged herself away from the flames. Her foot seemed dangerously swollen and discolored, with the bandages burned off and the dangerous bite marks from the Kishin egg very visible. Her arms, hands, face, lower legs and feet were lightly spotted with either cooled, ugly black scorched marks from the burns or still red hot with the smell of charred flesh. The rest of the barred skin wasn't nearly as bad as the ones on her body, but it wasn't as pristine either. Her face looked tired and nauseous from the smoke near by but that wasn't stopping her. Until help could find her, the most she could do is keep on dragging herself away from the flames.

He would have stopped for anyone crawling out of a burning building, when not on a mission. They needed to be pulled clear. But even with the bruises and burning, the smoke and the ash, Gai would recognize that person anywhere.

The pursuit could wait.

Missions were important, protecting was important, but Tenten came above almost all the rest of the city. His vest was already coming off as he dashed to her side, trying to carefully cover her with it without brushing the burned marks. "I am here, Tenten. I am here." She might be in shock, might not be able to hear him, but that didn't matter. As gently as he could Gai picked her up. The flames were too close, and she needed to not be crawling more.

He couldn't quite process what he was seeing yet. She looked too damaged for him to grasp. "I have you." Too little, too late, but at least he was here now. The hospital. They needed to head there. Gai moved with care, not wanting to jostle her.

Tenten continued to try and strive towards getting out of range of whatever could possibly come her way, but, the more and more she desperately clawed at the pavement, the grimmer the out look was. She couldn't see Gai, with her eyes moving to a very narrow glance to prevent any more smoke to get in her eyes. So, when she first hears Gai arrive and attempt to cover her, she assumes that she's simply dead, or close to dying. There's no way anyone could possibly help her now, and it'd certainly be ridiculously unlikely that Gai would be the one to find her. The thoughts that this is a mirage or a cruel trick of her own mind trying to help her out in some last console towards her valiant but fruitless effort. But, as Gai's vest wrapped itself around her, she finally realized that this wasn't some delusional mirage.

It really was Gai-sensei. Part of her wanted to shrivel up and howl in some type of wrath, but she could hardly muster any type of strength for that. Instead, she just lets Gai know that she's definitely conscious with a weak, whiny whimper.

However, even with all of her injuries and exhaustion, she was able to at least push herself to talk. Her voice sounds surprisingly weak and raspy and is interrupted by a flurry of coughs, "Thank you, Gai-sensei. That fucking kid..." she tries to complete something but instead, it's interrupted by a coughing fit which stifles itself with another exhausted groan.

"It is all right, Tenten. And you are welcome." She didn't have to thank him. Really, Gai felt she had a right to be upset with him for taking so long. He was her teacher. This was not supposed to happen. Teachers didn't let their students nearly burn to death.

Making his way through the rubble, Gai searched for anyone who could help. There wasn't anyone in sight, so it looked like he'd be going all the way to the hospital. That was all right. No distance was too far for one of his students. "If you cannot talk, do not. You need your strength, my flower. But if you can, and you can tell me what kid it was..." Not like he would need any help trailing the kid, but if there were more than one causing problems he would know what one had harmed his Tenten.

Tenten wouldn't be angry that he didn't arrive early enough. She had no way of communicating with Gai and as a strong kunoichi, he shouldn't be responsible for bailing her out. When Ryoki stole her backpack, he also stole her communicator making any expectation for Gai fruitless.

Tenten knew that Gai would be heading for the hospital so she just clutched him tighter. Her voice speaks up again after some more coughing, still haggard and harsh, "Ryoki... That prick...". Though Gai would never be the pinnacle of a human encyclopedia, she did know that he always had a fantastic memory, especially when it came to Tenten and her exploits, and Watch matters. Gai should be able to recognize his name as their most frequent offender. He was the man that robbed a clinic for drugs and the man Tenten fought previously when he attacked people in a district.

However, despite this information, it just wasn't enough. Tenten felt that there was thing she should still caution Gai about, "He robbed me," she cautioned. Tenten tried to say something else before hacking up, but when that subsided she said the most important thing she was trying to make as her lungs continued to battle the smoke, "Took my explosives...". She knew Gai had to know what she had on her. With all of her various weapons, not even he would be able to accurately guess which ones she had on her that day. The rest of the stuff, her PCD, money, and everything else was less urgent. They can't take lives. and Gai would already be able to infer that they were taken when she announced her robbery.
