Stein watches him from afar for a little while, watching him studying the people around him, shifting from side to side here and there. it takes all of a second to realize the cat's purposely sitting there, but why..

oh. the mistletoe.

what was it about mistletoe? it's supposed to be good luck if you kiss under it? there are a few ideas and old wive's tales on it, but when it's all boiled down, sitting under mistletoe = kiss.

iiiinteresting. why would a cat want a kiss?

almost like a timid child, Stein works his way closer to the cat, until he's standing right in front of it, raising an eyebrow, staring down at it.

Stein reaches down. he picks up the mystical kitty. he holds him for a moment, staring into those yellow eyes.

so pretty.

Stein really isn't sure what to do here, but he's seen it a thousand times.

he touches the top of the cat's head to his face. that's passable, right?

pulling back again, he raises an eyebrow, cocking his head at the kitty. good kitty. nice kitty.

then, he sets the kitty back down and walks away, like nothing ever happened, hands in his pockets.

[oh, talking kitty is following him.

crap, what does he do.

he wanders throughout the festival for a little bit, almost as if he's trying to shake the kitty, but it looks like kitty's faster than he seems.

damn it all to hell, what's he going to do with a talking kitty.

does that mean he gets to keep the kitty? that the kitty's his now? because then he could open that kitty up and understand him; vivisect him and find out just why he can talk, what makes him so smart.

that would be so much fun.

but he doubts that's why the kitty's after him. maybe he wants another kiss?

so he turns again, and stops, and waits, and when kitty comes close he picks him up again, stares into his eyes, puts his face on his head again. there you go, kitty, another kiss.

but he doesn't want to put kitty down, so ...he just holds him for a second.

[The kitty belongs to many people because he belongs to no one but himself. He already has a few homes, and seems to like to collect them like baseball cards.

Cheshire purrs in his arms for a few moments, smiling up at Stein, looking a bit expectant as he waited for the interesting Doctor to say something.]

Stein's always heard about purring but never really experienced it himself, since most of the cats he dealt with hated him.]

[because he's not sure how to react to a kitty that doesn't try to claw him.]
