Not The Post I Was Going To Make, or Further Tales of Insomnia

So I'd had Ask Hadley down as generally ridiculous, until I found she'd written sensible things elsewhere about the Angelina Jolie No-Boobs revelation (not answering my question about whether anyone old enough to be making that choice should be basing their decisions on What Angelina Would Do, but hey, it's the 'who who is old enough to even have a ( Read more... )

Actually I think they're broadly in favour of women their own age in the workplace- just so long as they don't start til they've raised 2 or 3 kids to school age, ie applying for entry-level jobs in their early to mid 30s, against blokes in their early 20s. Yeah, that'd get you taken seriously...

Srsly, I consider our Mark pretty successful compared to other lads his age (23) but even with a wage about the same as a newly-qualified teacher (I can't believe it, and he works in the arts, the jammy little bugger) he still lives in a rented room in a sharted house. And that's not to mention the friends my age who are successful now but were still working internships or at college when they were his age.

Y'know, while it was me that it cut up- because it's not even going to register with the likes of our Mark- I suspect it's not even pitched at me- I'm probably not the 'right sort', because the baby boom is among people with low-paid jobs or none at all (oh, and women of colour. Especially women of colour (though the colour being brown rather than black- 'cos getting wound up about Jamaicans/black Africans is now realised to be rather pathetic, but if it's about some homogeneous Muslim menace, apparently that's valid). And is that meant to be a troubling thing?)

Most of the women involved have, naturally, also had a history of hand-wringing about other women failing to breastfeed their children until, probably, the kids asked them to please stop it.

Apparently the whole exercise is to 'open up a debate'. Which it sounds like it has- not about the perfect calender age to have children, seeing as for most people it's a moot point- but it has opened a debate about whether they're barkingly clueless or just assholes who like to bully people less fortunate than themselves.
